Background: Clinical and experimental evidence support a role for inflammation in the development of colorectal cancer, though the mechanisms are not fully understood. Beyond thrombosis and hemostasis, platelets are key actors of inflammation; they also have been involved in cancer. However, whether platelets participate in the link between inflammation and cancer is unknown. Objective: To investigate the contribution of platelets and platelet-derived proteins to inflammation-elicited colorectal tumor development. Methods: We used a clinically relevant mouse model of colitis-associated cancer. Platelet secretion and their reactivity to thrombin were assessed at each stage of carcinogenesis. We conducted an unbiased proteomic analysis of releasates of platelets isolated at pre-tumoral stage to identify soluble factors that might act on tumor development. Plasma levels of the identified proteins were measured during the course of carcinogenesis. We then treated the mice with clopidogrel to efficiently inhibit platelet release reaction. Results: At pre-tumoral stage, hyperactive platelets were a major source of circulating pro-tumoral serum amyloid A (SAA) proteins. Clopidogrel prevented the early elevation of plasma SAA, decreased colitis severity, and delayed the formation of dysplastic lesions and adenocarcinoma. Platelet inhibition hindered the expansion and function of immunosuppressive myeloid cells as well as their infiltration in tumors, while tissue CD8 T cells were augmented. Platelets or releasates of platelets from cancer mice both were able to polarize myeloid cells toward an immunosuppressive phenotype. Conclusions: Thus, platelets promote initiation of colitis-associated cancer by enhancing myeloid cell dependent immunosuppression. Antiplatelet agents may help prevent inflammation-elicited carcinogenesis by restoring antitumor immunity. [less ▲]

Among the stamp seals from the Ville II of Mari (EDIII - Early Akkad periods) published by D. Beyer in 2007, several are inscribed. Improvements in the reading of owner’s name and / or the layout of the decor can be proposed for some stamps seals discovered in the “chantier H” and “chantier F”. Firstly, a new view of the decor of the cylinder-seal owned by the wife of the "EN of Mari", documented by stamps from the “chantier H”, will be considered. Then, for some of “servant of the girl” known by stamps also discovered in the “chantier H”, this article will propose new reading of their names. Finally, it is now possible to identify the name and function of the owner of the cylinder-seal documented by the only sealing discovered in the “chantier F” from the Ville II. [less ▲]

The principal aim of this study was to contribute more to the knowledge of the eastern Moroccan honey by means of the analysis of physicochemical characteristics with different flora of eastern Morocco. Thirty one honey samples were collected from beekeepers in different regions of eastern Morocco. In this study, pH, free acidity, electrical conductivity (EC), water content, diastase, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and Protein content were all determined in different types of eight flora honey jujube, Multifloral, Citrus, Eucalyptus, thyme, carob, lavender and Rosemary. The moisture shows values of 15.39% and 19.37%, pH between 3.53 and 4.94, the free acidity ranges between 5.77 and 19.47 meq/kg, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content shows values between 3.98 and 56.14mg/kg; diastase values were between 6.98 and 21.17 Gothe; electrical conductivity between 108 and 626 μs/cm and Saccharase content values range between 1.16-11.91 U.E/kg. A statistical analysis was carried out to classify eight types of honeys, and identified the most significant parameters, using analysis of variance, principal component analysis (PCA). PCA showed that the cumulative variance was 71.91%. The present study revealed that eastern Morocco honey is a good quality. [less ▲]

Structuring poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) into porous materials or swelling PILs with free ionic liquids (ILs) has received specific attention recently and contributed to improve the performances of these materials used in a wide range of applications. The present work aims to take benefit of both approaches and produce macroporous PIL/IL gels in a single step through an innovative emulsion-templated polymerization method based on supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). More precisely, ILs vinyl monomers and crosslinkers were polymerized in the presence of non polymerizable ILs within the outer phase of a CO2-in-ILs high internal phase emulsion (HIPE). Specific macromolecular surfactants were synthesized by controlled radical polymerization techniques and tested for the stabilization of the CO2-in-ILs emulsions. While optimizing the polymerization conditions, we found that adding a limited amount of water in the medium was beneficial for the emulsion stability. Overall, this straightforward process gave access to macroporous polyHIPEs composed of poly(vinyl imidazolium) networks swollen by ‘free’ vinyl imidazolium-based ILs having interesting properties such as switchable polarity upon simple anion exchange reaction. This paper describes a robust and efficient method to obtain the steady-state, nonlinear behaviour of large arrays of electrically actuated micromembranes vibrating in a fluid. The nonlinear electromechanical behavior and the multiple vibration harmonics it creates are fully taken into account thanks to a multiharmonic finite element formulation, generated automatically using symbolic calculation. A domain decomposition method allows to consider large arrays of micromembranes by efficiently distributing the computational cost on parallel computers. Two- and three- dimensional examples highlight the main properties of the proposed method. [less ▲]
