Introduction: This study concerns resilience related to juvenile delinquency among victims of sexual abuse: sexual abuse has been recognized as a powerful risk factor for the emergence of deviant and criminal behavior. Objective: Our study aims to explore and highlight the protective factors that prevent victims of sexual abuse from engaging in a delinquent trajectory. Method: The sample consists of teenage girls who have revealed at minimum last year, their intergenerational abuse. These girls, all between 12 and 18 years old, are divided into sub-groups: the non-offender victims and the victims who are also offenders. Each teenage victim is compared to a normative population on different psychological functioning dimensions : self-esteem (Harter's self-perception profile for adolescents), aggressiveness (the Buss-Perry Aggression questionnaire) and Post-Traumatic Stress, with the Impact of Event scale-Revised, (IES-R)-Horowitz. We analyze family characteristics such as familial attachment and family climate, social characteristics such as associations with peers, and environmental factors such as reactions to revelations of sexual abuse, the presence of family and extra-familial resources, psychological care. Results and conclusion: The results show that teenage victims of sexual assault present lower self-esteem and a negative self-perception in all fields, except for the perception of their attractiveness. Over-investment of this single dimension of self-perception can lead to a sexualization of their relationships with others and expose them to the risk of sexual revictimisation. The comparative analyses between the adolescent delinquent and non-delinquent victims highlight risk factors in connection with setting them off on a delinquent trajectory and protective factors supporting their resilience. The results highlight specific characteristics to the offender juvenile victims supporting a delinquent trajectory : aggressiveness, PTSD, defensive strategy of avoidance and characteristics of abuse (chronicity of abuse). The victim committed in delinquent trajectories presented more aggressiveness, consumeristic behaviour, post-traumatic stress and defensive strategy of avoidance than non-offender victims. Delinquent behaviour, just like substance abuse, could be a strategy of risk avoidance in connection with reliving sexual trauma, which hinders the process of resilience. Compared to the process of resilience, immediate and differed paternal support (during and after the revelations) seems the most important factor of protection. Being able to benefit from psychological councelling and having an extra-familial resource (a significant relationship with someone in the social environment) also constitute factors that support the resilience of these teenagers and prevent them from going down the path of delinquency. The interventions should aim at establishing a therapeutic alliance with these young girls during the early process of revealing the sexual abuse and mobilize and activate the support of the father (when he is not the abuser) or of a meaningful paternal figure as early as possible during the revealing phase and to accompany him in this restructuring function. Combining titanium dioxide (TiO2) as indigestible marker to faecal near-infrared reflectance spectrometry (F-NIRS) can be used to determine cattle feed intake and quality of ingested forage if F-NIRS spectra are not modified by the marker. This study aimed at determining the compatibility of TiO2 with F-NIRS. Three dry cows were fed a standard hay-based diet for three weeks supplemented with a daily dose of 0.1 % (10g) TiO2 during the last two weeks of the experiment. Faeces samples were collected every day and analysed for TiO2 and F-NIRS. Results suggest that TiO2 did not interfere with F-NIRS analyses. The calculations of crude protein, NDF, ADL contents, as well as dry matter intake did not change over time with increasing TiO2 in the faeces (P > 0.05). Slight differences observed for other predicted parameters seemed to be independent from TiO2. The higher Mahalanobis distance (H) for chemical composition (H = 7.2) independent from TiO2 inclusion could indicate that faecal spectra did not correspond exactly to the prediction database. Although 0.1% incorporation of TiO2 seem not to interfere with F-NIRS measurements, caution must be taken with higher levels of TiO2 as nothing indicates that interference could not appear. [less ▲]

Plasma membranes are complex entities common to all living cells. The basic principle of their organization appears very simple, but they are actually of high complexity and represent very dynamic structures. The interactions between bioactive molecules and lipids are important for numerous processes, from drug bioavailablility to viral fusion. The cell membrane is a carefully balanced environment and any change inflicted upon its structure by a bioactive molecule must be considered in conjunction with the overall effect that this may have on the function and integrity of the membrane. Conceptually, understanding the molecular mechanisms by which bioactive molecules interact with cell membranes is of fundamental importance. Lipid specificity is a key factor for the detailed understanding of the penetration and/or activity of lipid-interacting molecules and of mechanisms of some diseases. Further investigation in that way should improve drug discovery and development of membrane-active molecules in many domains such as health, plant protection or microbiology. In this review, we will present complementary biophysical approaches that can give information about lipid specificity at a molecular point of view. Examples of application will be given for different molecule types, from biomolecules to pharmacological drugs. A special emphasis is given to cyclic lipopeptides since they are interesting molecules in the scope of this review by combining a peptidic moiety and a lipidic tail and by exerting their activity via specific interactions with the plasma membrane. Our essay focuses on some methodological issues concerning the semiotic analysis of practice. We will initially retrace the debate about the epistemological relationship between text and action, outlining the forms of enunciative praxis through different levels of pertinence analysis. Secondly, we propose the concept of ‘textualization’ as a mediation between text and action: textualizations (photographs, videos, notes) organize and represent practices which are in themselves ephemeral and elusive. Finally, we will consider the textual diagrammatization that we call ‘notation’: this analytical form of mediation between text and practice does not have the same status of in-vivo textualisations, but it works like an ex-post reconstruction which highlights the main gestures and exchanges while performing their grammaticalization. A more general aim of this essay is an enquiry into the legitimate objects of textual semiotics: what are the objects that it can analyze without betraying its principle of immanence, but also without being confined to it and, as a consequence, being unable to analyze practices and respond to topical questions on social issues and on the research in the human sciences? The mechanical behavior of mettalic materials deeply depends on the size of samples. For specimen dimensions de creasing from a few millimeters to a few micrometers, the general observed trend is a softening of the mechanical behavior in tension which affects the stress level and the strain hardening. This effect is triggered by the derease of the number of grains across the thickness ( also called thickness"t" over grain size "d" ratio). The objective of this work is to provide new experimental results in order to analyse the miniaturization size effects for various stress paths without strain gradients across the thickness of the samples. To this aim, experimental tensil tests, large tensile tests and shear tests have been performed on Ni sheets ( 0.5mm) with various grain sizes ensuring different t/d ratios. Results show that the miniaturization softening is affected by triaxiality, the larger is this parameter, the lower is the mechanicval softening. These features seem to be linked to surface effects which are larger for low triaxiality stress paths. Attempts of numerical simulations using strain gradient crystal plasticity model are also performed to confirm the role played by surface effects. [less ▲]

A new species of the phlyctaeniid arthrodire genus Groenlandaspis from the upper Famennian of Belgium is described. The remains of Groenlandaspis potyi sp. nov. consist of dissociated thoracic armor elements, but the specimen designed to be the holotype displays the median dorsal, anterior and posterior dorsolateral plates in connection. Though incomplete, the new species is characterized by an equilateral triangle-shaped median dorsal plate, a protruding posterodorsal apron of the posterior dorsolateral plate behind the overlap area for the median dorsal plate, and an overall lack of ornamentation. Groenlandaspis potyi sp. nov. constitutes the second occurrence of a Groenlandaspis species in continental Europe after the description of Groenlandaspis thorezi from upper Famennian quarries of Belgium. Another probable new species of Groenlandaspis is also described, though of unknown locality and horizon; it can however be deduced from the upper Famennian of Belgium without more precision. Together with some unpublished material of groenlandaspidids from the Famennian tetrapod-bearing locality of Strud, this material highlights the richness of the Groenlandaspididae diversity in Belgium. The discovery of Groenlandaspis potyi sp. nov. in Belgium reinforces the Famennian global distribution of this widespread genus during this period. Also, since those organisms have possibly been considered as non-marine indicators, this material is another argument pleading for close relationships between Euramerica and Gondwana around the Frasnian-Famennian boundary.

This work presents a mixed penalty-duality formulation from an augmented Lagrangian approach for treating the contact inequality constraints. The augmented Lagrangian approach allows to regularize the non differentiable contact terms and gives a C1 differentiable saddle-point functional. The relative displacement of two contacting bodies is described in the framework of the Finite Element Method (FEM) using the mortar method, which gives a smooth representation of the contact forces across the bodies interface. To study the robustness and performance of the proposed algorithm, validation numerical examples with finite deformations and large slip motion are presented. [less ▲]

Drawing on first–hand accounts of possession experiences in an Afro–Brazilian cult and Dolphin encounters at sea, we compare the two settings in order to identify the common features in people’s experiences, but also in the technologies of enchantment that make them possible. By “technology of enchantment”, we mean a space of practice, neither totally material, nor totally subjective, that supports “revelation”–like encounters with real or imagined intentional entities. Our analysis suggests that both types of experiences share at least five common traits: the presence of a prolific imagination marked by ontological and epistemological uncertainty; uncanny feelings; attentional focus on inner bodily and mental states; trance–like states; and an intentional shift from active to passive. The immersion of the individual in a sensorily organized environment (sensescape), made of distributed perceptual saliences, is found to play a central role in the merging of unusual body states with the imagination, which in turn enables the production of “new” embodied meanings belonging to enchantment.
