We show that there exist c-generated algebras (and dense in C^infty([0,1])) every nonzero element of which is a nowhere Gevrey diff erentiable function. This leads to results of dense algebrability (and, therefore, lineability) of functions enjoying this property. In the process of proving these results we also provide a new construction of nowhere Gevrey di fferentiable functions. [less ▲]

Currently, it is difficult for a student to pursue higher education without using a digital environment. This leads to the emergence the concept of Personal Learning Environment (PLE). The authors define it and consider his competition or complementarity with the digitals institutional environments. They report exploratory study results on students’ representations about their numeric learning environments and their interests about them. Data comes from questionnaires and interviews. Their analysis shows different profiles related to the PLE. Linking the results to learning theories and aspects of technical and educational design, they propose further investigation and development related to the complementarity of PLE and institutional learning environments (ILE). Promoting affiliation between scientists is relatively easy, but creating larger organisational structures is more difficult, due to traditions of scientific independance, difficulties of sharing implicit knowledge, and formal organisational barrers. Hence there is a need to research possibilities given by Communities of practice. This paper presents a research projet (doctoral thesis) whose goal is to implement Communities of Practice (CoP) in order to sustain knowledge transfer in regulatory analytical sciences. [less ▲]

Genetic variability related to the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene (Val158Met) has received increasing attention as a possible modulator of executive functioning and its neural correlates. However, this attention has generally centred on the prefrontal cortices because of the well-known direct impact of COMT enzyme on these cerebral regions. In this study, we were interested in the modulating effect of COMT genotype on anterior and posterior brain areas underlying interference resolution during a Stroop task. More specifically, we were interested in the functional connectivity between the right inferior frontal operculum (IFop), an area frequently associated with inhibitory efficiency, and posterior brain regions involved in reading/naming processes (the two main non-executive determinants of the Stroop effect). The Stroop task was administered during fMRI scanning to three groups of 15 young adults divided according to their COMT Val158Met genotype [Val/Val (VV), Val/Met (VM) and Met/Met (MM)]. Results indicate greater activity in the right IFop and the left middle temporal gyrus (MTG) in homozygous VV individuals than in Met allele carriers. In addition, the VV group exhibited stronger positive functional connectivity between these two brain regions and stronger negative connectivity between the right IFop and left lingual gyrus. These results confirm the impact of COMT genotype on frontal function. They also strongly suggest that differences in frontal activity influence posterior brain regions related to a non-executive component of the task. Especially, changes in functional connectivity between anterior and posterior brain areas might correspond to compensatory processes for performing the task efficiently when the available dopamine level is low. In this paper, we introduce and study the capacitated vehicle routing problem with sequence based pallet loading and axle weight constraints. To the best of our knowledge, it is the rst time that axle weight restrictions are incorporated in a vehicle routing model. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that incorporating axle weight restrictions in a vehicle routing model is possible and necessary for a feasible route planning. Axle weight limits impose a great challenge for transportation companies. Trucks with overloaded axles represent a signi cant threat for tra c safety and may cause serious damage to the road surface. Transporters face high nes when violating these limits. A mixed integer linear programming formulation for the capacitated vehicle routing problem with sequence based pallet loading and axle weight constraints is provided. Results of the model are compared to results of the model without axle weight restrictions. Computational experiments demonstrate that the model performs adequately and that the integration of axle weight constraints in vehicle routing models is required for a feasible route planning. Depression is one of the most important mental health problems and a leading cause of disability. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are considered as first-line therapy for the treatment of depressive symptoms among older adults because of their presumed favorable adverse effect profile. However, they could have deleterious effects on the bone. Evidence from longitudinal, crosssectional, and prospective cohort studies suggests that the use of antidepressants at therapeutic doses is associated with decreased bone mineral density and increased fracture risk. The association between SSRIs use and fracture risk could potentially differ depending on dose, exposure duration, time of exposure, age, or sex. However, the risk of fracture declined rapidly after discontinuation of use of SSRIs. The evidence now seems sufficient to consider adding SSRIs to the list of medications that contribute to osteoporosis. In practice, assessment of risk factor for osteoporosis or fractures could be made taking into account age, gender, duration, and severity of depression, length of SSRI treatments, and other concurrent risk factors. Objective: The objective of this paper is to propose, starting from the description of a clinical emblematic case, a theoretical synthesis of the work of phenomenological psychopathology dedicated to melancholia and typus melancholicus (TM), a clinical concept that describes the premorbid personality vulnerable to major depression (“melancholia” for the psychopathological tradition). Method: This is phenomenological analysis of a case study of melancolia, of its premorbid personality and pathogenic triggering situation. We adopt two main phenomenological keys to understanding the develpment of melancholia : role-identity theory and desynchronization theory. The former understands melancholia as a disorder of identity triggered by the loss of the social role with which one has previously over-identifed. The latter sees melancholia as the effect of the desynchronisation from the social environment that further develops into an inhibition of the conative–affective dynamics of life. We present the case of Jonas (64 years old), whose mother (94 years old) recently died. Before his mother’s death, Jonas’ life was entirely orchestrated by the caring for his mother and synchronized in time with this (e.g., he used to go to her house every 4 hours, took all his meals with her, etc.). Jonas, in addition to being hyper-synchronized and hyper-syntonic, fulfills all diagnostic criteria for TM, including “orderliness”, “conscientiousness”, “hyper/heteronomia” and “intolerance of ambiguity”. TM’s attach a disproportioned importance to their social roles (or external representations of identity) at the expense of their own ego-identity. Results: The passage from pre-morbid personality to melancholia is triggered by the death of Jonas’ mother that entails a profound depersonalization. Desynchronization and role loss cause Jonas fall into this severe depersonalization, whose core feature is the feeling of the loss of feeling. Conclusions: This original contribution demonstrates a clinical case can contribute to the construction and refinement of theoretical and conceptual frameworks (like princeps Tellenbach's studies). Over-synchronized tempo and over-identification with social role are emblematically in this case the two sides of the same coin. A parallelism can be established between synchronization (with the mother) and respect for the role at the expense of own identity. The clinical case of Jonas highlights a conceptual bridge between the model of melancholia as loss of social role and the model of melancholia as desynchronization. [less ▲]

We report bulk gas concentrations of O2, N2 and Ar, as well as their transport coefficients, in natural landfast subarctic sea ice in southwest Greenland. The observed bulk ice gas composition was 27.5% O2, 71.4% N2 and 1.09% Ar. Most previous studies suggest that convective transport is the main driver of gas displacement in sea ice and have neglected diffusion processes. According to our data, brines were stratified within the ice, so that no convective transport could occur within the brine system. Therefore, diffusive transport was the main driver of gas migration. By analysing the temporal evolution of an internal gas peak within the ice, we deduced the bulk gas transport coefficients for oxygen (DO2), argon (DAr) and nitrogen (DN222 ). The values fit to the few existing estimates from experimental work, and are close to the diffusivity values in water (10-5 cm2 s-124 ). We suggest that gas bubbles escaping from the brine to the atmosphere - as the ice gets more permeable during melt could be responsible for the previously reported high transport coefficients. These results underline that when there is no convective transport within the sea ice, the transport of gas by diffusion through the brines, either in the liquid or gaseous phases, is a major factor in controlling the ocean–atmosphere exchange. CoRoT and Kepler observations of red giant stars revealed very rich spectra of non-radial solar-like oscillations. Of particular interest was the detection of mixed modes that exhibit significant amplitude, both in the core and at the surface of the stars. It opens the possibility of probing the internal structure from their innermost layers up to their surface throughout their evolution on the red giant branch, as well as on the red clump. Our objective is primarily to provide physical insight into the mechanism responsible for mixed-mode amplitudes and lifetimes. Subsequently, we aim at understanding the evolution and structure of red-giant spectra along with their evolution. The study of energetic aspects of these oscillations is also important for predicting the mode parameters in the power spectrum. Non-adiabatic computations, including a time-dependent treatment of convection, are performed and provide the lifetimes of radial and non-radial mixed modes. We then combine these mode lifetimes and inertias with a stochastic excitation model that gives us their heights in the power spectra. For stars representative of CoRoT and Kepler observations, we show under which circumstances mixed modes have heights comparable to radial ones. We stress the importance of the radiative damping in determining the height of mixed modes. Finally, we derive an estimate for the height ratio between a g-type and a p-type mode. This can thus be used as a first estimate of the detectability of mixed modes. [less ▲]
