This worked aimed to simulate the climate and surface mass balance of Svalbard at high spatial resolution with the regional climate model MAR. First, simulations of the present (1979 - 2013) climate and surface mass balance were performed at a spatial resolution of 10 km. MAR was evaluated over Svalbard by comparing its outputs to measurements of temperature and precipitation measurement and outputs of other modelling products fo the surface mass balance. The results of the MAR simulations were then analysed over 1979 - 2013 and shoed a stability of the (negative) SMB opposed to the recent melt records observed in Greenland. This stability was attributed to a recent change in summer atmospheric circulation damping the Arctic warming over Svalbard. A future projection over 1980 - 2100 was then performed with MAR forced by MIROC5 and the RCP8.5 scenario and showed that the future SMB decrease is projected to be mainly driven by the albedo decrease (related to the expansion of the ablation area) through the increase of the net shortwave radiation absorbed by the surface. Finally, an online downscaling technique has been implemented in MAR to allow the surface modeule SISVAT, computing the surface mass balance and its components, to run at a resolution twice as high as the atmospheric module. This method, based on near-surface temperature and humidity corrections on a subgrid, allows SMB outputs at a resolution twice as high with only 25% more computation time. [less ▲]

In this contribution, we use infrared solar occultation measurements performed by the ACE-FTS (Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment – Fourier Transform Spectrometer) instrument onboard the SCISAT-1 Canadian satellite (Bernath et al., 2005). Since its launch in August 2003, this spectrometer has been in continuous operation with no significant degradation of its performance, and global measurements are available from late February 2004 onwards, spanning now more than a decade. Gene-gene interactions underlie biochemical pathways and have been well demonstrated in model organisms. Very few examples exist on replicated epistasis in humans. Here, we performed genome-wide scans to detect epistasis associated to Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). We used extensive data of the IIBDGC consisting of 18277 and 14224 CD and UC patients, respectively, and ~34050 healthy controls from 15 European countries typed on the Immunochip. At first, we removed rare variants at MAF<0.05 and filtered common variants at linkage disequilibrium (LD) of r2>0.75. To limit our results to independent effects, SNPs on chromosome 6 (which contains the HLA locus), were furthermore pruned to ensure an LD of r2<0.35. We adjusted the binary traits, CD and UC, for population stratification by regressing out the first 5 principal components in R-3.0.1. The study cohorts were randomly stratified into two subgroups (referred as discovery and replication). We then performed screenings for epistatic interactions with new adjusted trait values in the two subgroups using multidimensional reduction tool MB-MDR with permutation-based (step-down MaxT) multiple testing correction and significance assessment at 0.05. We identified 14 and 6 SNP-pairs associated to CD and UC, respectively, which were concordant between the discovery and replication groups. All SNP-pairs involved concomitant variants located on the same chromosomes (for CD at 1p31.3, 5p13.1, 16q12.1 and for UC at 1p31.3, 6p21.3). A more detailed investigation of these findings, as well as the implementation of different analysis protocols, will further increase our understanding of possible epistatic mechanisms underpinning IBD. OBJECTIVE: Cardiac surgery may be complicated by acute kidney injury (AKI). Cardiotomy suction during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is deleterious. A few studies have demonstrated that shed mediastinal blood (SMB) suction during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can increase inflammatory response and lipids emboli. These 2 factors contribute to the development of postoperative AKI. The RemoweLL (RemoweLeucoLipids, Eurosets™, Italy) filter is a recent designed cardiotomy with a multilayer filter for activated leucocytes filtration and a syphon for lipid particles sequestration. The SMB can be collected and filtered in this supplementary cardiotomy added to CPB circuit. The aim of this monocentric prospective study was to compare the specific RemoweLL cardiotomy filtration for suction blood during CPB and a conventional 40 µm filter (Admiral, Eurosets™, Italy). The primary goal was to evaluate the AKI within 48 hours after surgery using the Acute Kidney Injury Network classification (AKIN classification) but also measuring early specific biomarkers of AKI: serum Cystatine C and urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL). METHODS: Sixty patients scheduled for elective cardiac surgery (aortic or mitral valvular combined or not with coronary bypass grafting) with a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) > 45mL/min. were randomly into 2 groups for SMB filtration: - Groupe 1 (n=30) with RemoweLL cardiotomy (Leucocytes and lipids filter); - Groupe 2 (n=30) with Admiral cardiotomy (conventional 40 µm filter). All components: venous reservoir, oxygenator and surface treatment were similar in both groups. [less ▲]
