In the framework of the CIRAD REVASIA research program, aimed at the improvement of methods for the evaluation of animal health surveillance systems, a interdisciplinary approach has been designed for addressing surveillance‘s social factors at local level. To that purpose, methodological inputs from epidemiology, economics and anthropology have been merged together in order to provide an innovative methodological pathway for the assessment and quantification of these factors at community level. Regarding the onset of the desired interdisciplinary approach, the first step was to bring the researchers into several brainstorming sessions aimed at defining a shared scientific and operational objective for this study. It was decided to settle two field sites in two different political, economical and social contexts: one in Vietnam and one in Thailand. Then, the next step was to bring all the concerned researchers into a common workshop dealing with participatory approaches applied to epidemiology. One of the main outcomes was to allow for the handling by the investigators of basic participatory investigation and visualization tools (mapping, diagrams, proportional piling, etc.) and qualitative data gathering. Then, the two field inquiry’s protocols were designed on the economical process at play in the field of livestock and animal health and the social and socio-‐political dynamics at the community level. This communication will focus on the Thailand study, showing how an anthropology-‐based study of the social, economical and political process in the community can highlight behavior rules in the context of animal diseases reporting. Indeed, the decision-‐making process for reporting or not reporting a disease has been considered beyond the individual, as the result of a body of community influences referring to social factors. Thus, we have gone through a better understanding of (1) the community’s functioning patterns, (2) power relationships at play and social stakeholders’ networks and interactions (economical stakes, land tenure issues, political control etc.). In parallel, we showed some trends for health management practices and knowledge. The outputs of this study were an analysis of the social pressure that the stakeholders are subjected to in the framework of animal health management, a better understanding of the animal health information spreading scheme, and a typology of social stakeholders regarding surveillance. The research process, even if focusing on social and anthropological dynamics at play was interdisciplinary from the very beginning, merging together qualitative participatory investigation methods from sociology and economics, modeling and computer sciences, and epidemiology. Thus, pathways of individual motivation for reporting, based on social types, have been provided in order to highlight behavior rules associated to animal health surveillance systems. [less ▲]

Abstract : Belgian family luxury Houses are increasingly confrontated to a problem of independence caused by the growing influence of great financial groups and of private investment funds, on the one hand, and by a problem of image due to their Belgian origin, on the other hand. Nevertheless, their growing need for internationalization in order to counter the threats of the market and to seize opportunities leads them to concede one part of their control to institutional investors. The interest of this research is to study the potential impact, as perceived by the leaders of Belgian luxury Houses, of the venue of public institutional investors in their capital structure. We show that this perceived impact oscillates between sacralization and diabolisation of public institutional investors. [less ▲]

This report describes the accomplished breakthrough for the manufacturing of long carbon fibres reinforced magnesium alloy (AZ91). Infiltration can be performed with non-equilibrium conditions such as fibres preheating, high liquid compacting pressure and low contact times. Thanks to specific TEOS sol/gel treatment, the reached fibre rate is 60 vol.% and the measured Young's modulus of the composite is ca. 110 GPa. The presence of defects including fibre yarns misorientation, unreinforced areas seems very detrimental to the bending properties. Other advanced infiltration techniques with Al pretreatment (K2ZrF6) of fibres is also considered. [less ▲]

A large dataset of dayside grazing limb CO2+ observations performed by the SPICAM (Spectroscopy for Investigation of Characteristics of the Atmosphere of Mars) instrument on board Mars Express is analyzed to retrieve Martian thermospheric temperature, as well as its variation with solar activity, season and latitude. The method permits to retrieve the temperature from the scale height of the CO2+ emission. We also present puzzling features such as limb profiles exhibiting multiple peaks and their characteristics. We furthermore study the behavior of the main emission peak of the CO2+ vertical emission profiles. The CO2+ emission at 289 nm arises from the relaxation of the CO2+* molecule in the B2Σ+ state to the X2Π state. CO2+* molecules are mainly produced in the Martian dayside through photoionisation and photoelectron impact. The CO2+ emission exhibits features that constrain the temperature and density vertical profiles of CO2. Comparisons of retrieved temperatures are made with corresponding simulations from the coupled MGCM-MTGCM. We also use a Monte-Carlo code to model the observed intensity limb profiles. [less ▲]

COSMOGRAIL is a long-term programme for the photometric monitoring of gravitationally lensed quasars. It makes use of several medium-size telescopes to derive long and well-sampled light curves of lensed quasars, in order to measure the time delays between the quasar images. These delays directly relate to the Hubble constant H0, without any need for secondary distance calibrations. COSMOGRAIL was initiated in 2004, and has now secured almost a decade of data, resulting in cosmological constraints that are very complementary to other cosmological probes. [less ▲]

[less ▲]

Who are the women who learn online ? Why and in which circumstances have they chosen to learn online ? Have they taken advantage of this experience ? In this article, we speak about the exploratory survey carried out with 22 women to know their motivation in online courses, what they did during those courses and what they remember of their experience. We also wanted to know whether eLearning gave women the opportunity to learn and to be trained even when they have a lot of responsabilities and sometimes little time to learn. [less ▲]
