This study aims to establish a common Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) framework to report biodiversity for the Gypsum Industry at the European level. An original approach of participatory process has been developed in order to integrate the different opinions and to reach a consensus framework between different stakeholders’ groups: - Eurogypsum stakeholders - European and local authorities - Scientific panel : universities and consulting offices - European and local associations for the conservation of nature - Stakeholders from the mining sector The strategy is based on five main steps: (i) To Build a stakeholders’ network; (ii) To build a framework proposal to be submitted to stakeholders by selecting a maximum set of indicators based on the literature and reaching an agreement on indicators with Eurogypsum (Focus Group); (iii) Reaching a consensus framework with all the stakeholders and evaluating feasibility by a Delphi Policy survey, by the analysis of the EIAs of the Gypsum Industry and by visiting three European quarries; (iv) Final validation with Eurogypsum (meeting); (v) Creating indicators’ Factsheets and a Eurogyspum report to the destination of the public. The resulting framework contains eleven indicators which are the most acceptable set of indicators for all the stakeholders. It answers to European legislation and strategies for biodiversity. It is intended to improve sustainability in the quarries and to help managing biodiversity, to allow setting up of appropriate reporting systems. The aim is to maintain the biodiversity status of the gypsum quarries. It is a flexible framework adaptable given the local context of each gypsum quarry in order to prove if a No Net Loss has been reached at a quarry’s scale. [less ▲]

Dans la documentation papyrologique relative aux pratiques médicales de l’Égypte gréco-romaine et byzantine, le genre des listes de produits pharmaceutiques n’a encore jamais fait l’objet, ni d’un inventaire, ni d’une étude exhaustifs. Dans le cadre de nos recherches doctorales sur la typologie des papyrus documentaires grecs et latins à caractère médical, c’est cette lacune que l’on se propose de combler, d’une part en cataloguant, au moyen de la fiche Mertens-Pack³ du CEDOPAL, la trentaine de listes de produits pharmaceutiques provenant d’Égypte, écrites en grec sur papyrus et ostracon (IIIe s. av. J.-Chr.-VIIe s. apr. J.-Chr.), auxquelles on ajoutera deux listes latines sur tablettes de bois, provenant du camp romain de Vindolanda (c. 100p), et, d’autre part, en analysant les aspects formels, paléographiques, textuels et contextuels de ces documents médicaux qui peuvent correspondre, soit à un inventaire de droguiste, soit à une commande, soit à une ou plusieurs recettes dont l’état fragmentaire du support a fait disparaître les proportions. On comparera les données obtenues avec d’autres pièces papyrologiques, spécialement les nombreuses prescriptions médicales, ainsi que les comptes, les reçus de paiement ou encore les lettres privées relatives à des demandes de médicaments ou à la livraison de substances pharmaceutiques. We present results derived from the first multi-chord stellar occultations by the transneptunian object (50000) Quaoar, observed on 2011 May 4 and 2012 February 17, and from a single-chord occultation observed on 2012 October 15. If the timing of the five chords obtained in 2011 were correct, then Quaoar would possess topographic features (crater or mountain) that would be too large for a body of this mass. An alternative model consists in applying time shifts to some chords to account for possible timing errors. Satisfactory elliptical fits to the chords are then possible, yielding an equivalent radius R [SUB]equiv[/SUB] = 555 ± 2.5 km and geometric visual albedo p[SUB]V[/SUB] = 0.109 ± 0.007. Assuming that Quaoar is a Maclaurin spheroid with an indeterminate polar aspect angle, we derive a true oblateness of \epsilon = 0.087^{+0.0268}_{-0.0175}, an equatorial radius of 569^{+24}_{-17} km, and a density of 1.99 ± 0.46 g cm[SUP]–3[/SUP]. The orientation of our preferred solution in the plane of the sky implies that Quaoar's satellite Weywot cannot have an equatorial orbit. Finally, we detect no global atmosphere around Quaoar, considering a pressure upper limit of about 20 nbar for a pure methane atmosphere. [less ▲]

Context. Studies of transiting extrasolar planets are of key importance for understanding the nature of planets outside our solar system because their masses, diameters, and bulk densities can be measured. An important part of transit-search programmes is the removal of false-positives. In the case of the CoRoT space mission, the majority of the false-positives are removed by a detailed analysis of the light curves and by seeing-limited imaging in- and out-of-transit. However, the critical question is how many of the candidates that passed all these tests are false-positives. Such false-positives can be caused by eclipsing binaries, which are either related or unrelated to the targets. <BR /> Aims: For our study we selected 25 CoRoT candidates that have already been screened against false-positives using detailed analysis of the light curves and seeing-limited imaging, which has transits that are between 0.7 and 0.05% deep. Our aim is to search for companion candidates that had not been recognized in previous observations. <BR /> Methods: We observed 20 candidates with the adaptive optics imager NaCo and 18 with the high-resolution infrared spectrograph CRIRES. <BR /> Results: We found previously unknown stars within 2'' of the targets in seven of the candidates. All of these are too faint and too close to the targets to have been previously detected with seeing-limited telescopes in the optical. Our study thus leads to the surprising results that if we remove all candidates excluded by the sophisticated analysis of the light-curve, as well as carrying out deep imaging with seeing-limited telescopes, still 28-35% of the remaining candidates are found to possess companions that are bright enough to be false-positives. <BR /> Conclusions: Given that the companion candidates cluster around the targets and that the J - K colours are consistent with physical companions, we conclude that the companion candidates are more likely to be physical companions rather than unrelated field stars. Context. The technique of matching synthetic spectra computed with theoretical stellar atmosphere models to the observations is widely used in deriving fundamental parameters of massive stars. When applied to binaries, however, these models generally neglect the interaction effects present in these systems. <BR /> Aims: The aim of this paper is to explore the uncertainties in binary stellar parameters that are derived from single-star models. <BR /> Methods: Synthetic spectra that include the tidal perturbations and irradiation effects are computed for the binary system α Virginis (Spica) using our recently-developed CoMBiSpeC model. The synthetic spectra are compared to S/N ~ 2000 observations and optimum values of T[SUB]eff[/SUB] and log g are derived. <BR /> Results: The binary interactions have only a small effect on the strength of the photospheric absorption lines in Spica (<2% for the primary and <4% for the secondary). These differences are comparable to the uncertainties inherent to the process of matching synthetic spectra to the observations and thus the derived values of T[SUB]eff[/SUB] and log g are unaffected by the binary perturbations. On the other hand, the interactions do produce significant phase-dependent line profile variations in the primary star, leading to systematic distortions in the shape of its radial velocity curve. Migrating sub-features ("bumps") are predicted by our model to be present in the same photospheric lines as observed, and their appearance does not require any a priori assumptions regarding non-radial pulsation modes. Matching the strength of lines in which the most prominent "bumps" occur requires synthetic spectra computed with larger "microturbulence" than that required by other lines. [less ▲]

Investir : c’est croire en l’avenir. C’est renoncer en partie au présent pour donner vie au futur. C’est tourner le dos aux « Bouffeurs d’espoir » et à l’illusoire confort du statu quo. Enfin, et surtout, c’est oser «Oser » ! La distance séparant le discours public de la performance économique avérée suffit à démontrer l’incompréhension des mécanismes de création de richesse de ceux qui sont censés en avoir la maîtrise et les mettre en œuvre. Il est peu de domaines où les illusions, et autres idées fausses, ont un succès tel qu’elles amènent l’observateur aguerri à s’interroger sur le profit que d’aucuns pourraient en tirer. L’objet de ce document est de partager le fruit d’une réflexion menée sur le thème de l’Investissement, forme proéminente et condition première de l’activité économique, au moment où certains s’interrogent sur son encadrement et cherchent à en limiter la liberté.
