In the framework of the Gaia-ESO survey we have determined the fundamental parame- ters of a large number of B-type stars in the Galactic, young ope n cluster NGC 3293. The determination of the stellar parameters is based on medium- resolution spectra obtained with FLAMES/GIRAFFE at ESO-VLT. As a second step, we adopted the acc urate parameters to determine the chemical abundances of these hot stars. We pre sent a comparison of our results with those obtained by the ’VLT-FLAMES survey of massive sta rs’ (Evans et al. 2005). Our study increases the number of objects analysed and provides an extended view of this cluster. [less ▲]

As part of the Gaia-ESO Survey (GES), a number of clusters will be observed that were chosen speci cally for their massive-star content. We report on the procedures we followed to determine the stellar parameters from the massive-star spectra of this survey. We intercompare the results from the di erent techniques used by the nodes of our group to determine these parameters and discuss some of the problems encountered. We present preliminary results for NGC 6705, NGC 3293, and Trumpler 14. We study microturbulence in A-type stars, we use the repeat observation to investigate binarity, and we determine cluster membership from the radial velocity information. The large number of massive-star spectra obtained by the Gaia-ESO Survey will allow us to critically test stellar evolution modelling [less ▲]

Voice problems can be triggered by both vocal misuse and overuse. While misuse is caused by inappropriate vocal actions, overuse results from greater vocal loading than the individual is able to recover from. Vocal load depends primarily on the quantity of phonation in terms of duration, fundamental frequency and sound pressure of the voice. Portable load quantification systems have been available for several years. These dosimeters allow the objective description of vocal behavior in real situations for a prolonged duration. They are primarily used by voice professionals – people who need their voices for their work – such as teachers and singers. Voice dosimetry makes it possible to identify risky vocal behaviors and situations promoting dysphonia, in an ecological context. The objective of research using these tools is to suggest guidelines for the prevention, evaluation and treatment of dysphonia, mainly in people who use their voices a lot. In addition, this research attempts to set standards for daily voice use for different groups of individuals. [less ▲]

Background. Numerous students are having school difficulties linked to the way they learn. Some people speak of a “metacognitive deficit”. We refer to a “sleeping potential” instead. Be it psychologists, teachers or parents, all wish to develop their skills in order to help these students. This is the case in primary and secondary school. The EDUCA + project is intended to provide possible solutions. Purpose. The aim of this paper is to present a metacognitive and cognitive theory of learning to learn, which will (a) explain why numerous students are having school difficulties, and (b) predict the success of the EDUCA + project. [less ▲]

Aims. We aim to determine the theoretical instability strips of white dwarfs with various H and He content in their atmospheres, from a solar composition to a H-depleted atmosphere. Pulsators with mixed H/He atmospheres are indeed known to exist, and these are the white dwarfs in cataclysmic accreting systems of the GW Lib type. We thus also aim to determine the range of periods of excited pulsation modes, and to qualitatively compare these to the observed periods in GW Lib white dwarf pulsators. Methods. In this first full nonadiabatic stability analysis of pulsators of the kind, we applied a time-dependent convection treatment and an energy leakage argument to compute, for cooling models of white dwarfs with various masses and envelope compositions, the location of the blue and the red edges, as well as the properties of pulsation modes. Results. We find that our derived instability strips form a true "continuum" in the log g-Teff plane and that their individual location depends uniquely on the assumed atmospheric composition, from the solar composition models at low effective temperatures to the H-depleted models at much higher temperatures. Taking into account our previous results about the ZZ Ceti (pure H atmosphere) and V777 Her (pure He atmosphere) white dwarf pulsators, this implies that all of these instability domains are "connected" together via the same fundamental driving mechanism. Applying our results to the case of white dwarf pulsators of the GW Lib type, we find that our theoretical instability strips can qualitatively account for all of the known cases. The computed range of periods of excited modes also compares qualitatively very well to the observed ones. Conclusions. The GW Lib pulsators are very similar in nature to ZZ Ceti and V777 Her white dwarfs. It is the (various) chemical composition in their atmosphere/envelope that defines their specific pulsation properties. Beyond GW Lib pulsators, white dwarfs can sometimes exhibit mixed H/He atmospheres, such as in the recently found proto-He white dwarf pulsators. Our results open the way towards quantitative asteroseismology of these various kinds of white dwarfs. [less ▲]

We consider a mixed integer set which generalizes two well-known sets: the single node fixed- charge network set and the single arc design set. Such set arises as a relaxation of feasible sets of general mixed integer problems such as lot-sizing and network design problems. We derive several families of valid inequalities that, in particular, generalize the arc resid- ual capacity inequalities and the flow cover inequalities. For the constant capacitated case we provide an extended compact formulation and give a partial description of the convex hull in the original space which is exact under a certain condition. By lifting some basic inequalities we provide some insight on the difficulty of obtaining such a full polyhedral description for the constant capacitated case. Preliminary computational results are presented. [less ▲]

This cahier aims to identify and analyze the consequences of international migration movements on the school itineraries and aspirations of children who have been exposed to international migration between Mexico and the U. S. Some of these children are active actors of migratory flows because they moved from one country to another. Others are not active migrants; however, given the fact that they belong to divided families due to international migration, they are exposed to the impacts of their family members’ decisions. Consequently, two critical components of their migratory experiences will be the focus of our analysis. Firstly, we will analyze their school trajectory and secondly the family dispersion due to their migratory decisions. [less ▲]
