Of all the royal families of ancient or modern fame, few are as iconic as the eighteenth dynasty of pharaohs of the New Kingdom of Egypt, whose opulence and deeds we are still familiar to nearly 3,500 years after their time. Tenth pharaoh of this dynasty and father of Tutankhamun, Akhenaten (Amenhotep/Amenhotep IV) still fascinates Egyptologists and history lovers through the many questions surrounding his atypical rule. One of the most striking aspects of the so-called Amarna period concerns the representations of the pharaoh himself, very confusing compared to the traditional iconography of the New Kingdom. These intriguing portraits of Pharaoh raised a whole lot of medical assumptions, more or less substantiated. We review here the main theories developed throughout history. [less ▲]

How are identities of alternative forms of organization constructed and how does this process differ relative to normative forms socially expected? In this research we consider identity formation in co-operatives, a population of organizations allied globally through values and practices such as democratic participation, voluntary and open membership, and limited return to capital investment. As an extension of current thinking on identity formation in entrepreneurship and organizational theory, we use co-operatives to explore social expectations and institutional arrangements around form at the societal, population, and organizational levels using a population ecology framework. We develop a research agenda based on propositions that address specific features of identity formation in less typical forms of organization, including tensions with normative business expectations, engagement with identity audiences, embeddedness in networks and alliances, structural factors influencing identity, and identity ambiguity. Voice problems can be triggered by both vocal misuse and overuse. While misuse is caused by inappropriate vocal actions, overuse results from greater vocal loading than the individual is able to recover from. Vocal load depends primarily on the quantity of phonation in terms of duration, fundamental frequency and sound pressure of the voice. Portable load quantification systems have been available for several years. These dosimeters allow the objective description of vocal behavior in real situations for a prolonged duration. They are primarily used by voice professionals – people who need their voices for their work – such as teachers and singers. Voice dosimetry makes it possible to identify risky vocal behaviors and situations promoting dysphonia, in an ecological context. The objective of research using these tools is to suggest guidelines for the prevention, evaluation and treatment of dysphonia, mainly in people who use their voices a lot. In addition, this research attempts to set standards for daily voice use for different groups of individuals. [less ▲]

We discuss raditiative-induced neutrino mass mechanisms. We first briefly discuss systematic one-loop level classifications, and then discuss two-loop classification schemes based on a diagrammatic decomposition of the Weinberg operator. We point out that both, the one and two-loop order systematic sorting provides an exhaustive guide for radiative neutrino mass models. [less ▲]

A pseudo-Boolean function is a real-valued function $f(x)=f(x_1,x_2,\ldots,x_n)$ of $n$ binary variables; that is, a mapping from $\{0,1\}^n$ to ${\bbr}$. For a pseudo-Boolean function $f(x)$ on $\{0,1\}^n$, we say that $g(x,y)$ is a quadratization of $f$ if $g(x,y)$ is a Quadratic polynomial depending on $x$ and on $m$ auxiliary binary variables $y_1,y_2,\ldots,y_m$ such that $f(x)= \min \{ g(x,y) : y \in \{0,1\}^m \} $ for all $x \in \{0,1\}^n$. By means of quadratizations, minimization of $f$ is reduced to minimization (over its extended set of variables) of the quadratic function $g(x,y)$. This is of some practical interest because minimization of quadratic functions has been thoroughly studied for the last few decades, and much progress has been made in solving such problems exactly or heuristically. A related paper initiated a systematic study of the minimum number of auxiliary $y$-variables required in a quadratization of an arbitrary function $f$ (a natural question, since the complexity of minimizing the quadratic function $g(x,y)$ depends, among other factors, on the number of binary variables). In this paper, we determine more precisely the number of auxiliary variables required by quadratizations of \emph{symmetric} pseudo-Boolean functions $f(x)$, those functions whose value depends only on the Hamming weight of the input $x$ (the number of variables equal to 1). This cahier aims to identify and analyze the consequences of international migration movements on the school itineraries and aspirations of children who have been exposed to international migration between Mexico and the U. S. Some of these children are active actors of migratory flows because they moved from one country to another. Others are not active migrants; however, given the fact that they belong to divided families due to international migration, they are exposed to the impacts of their family members’ decisions. Consequently, two critical components of their migratory experiences will be the focus of our analysis. Firstly, we will analyze their school trajectory and secondly the family dispersion due to their migratory decisions. [less ▲]
