From October 24 to 30, 2011, the 5th edition of Open Access Week is taking place. This event is the opportunity for the international research community to exchange ideas and act in favor of Open Access. This year the University of Liège has decided to participate actively by being behind various initiatives, including the interview with researchers closely connected to ORBi and Open Access.

This week is also the opportunity to (re)discover ORBi and Open Access through a specific promotional campaign in your libraries and the ORBi and ULg websites.

Let us remind ourselves of several of the advantages of Open Access, supported by figures and testimonies:

• An increase in the use made of research references: over 1,000 downloads per day since the beginning of 2011 (see the ORBi statistics).
• The immediate presence of your references on all of the major search engines (Google, etc.).
• A citation rate which has doubled: an analysis of the data shows that the publications deposited on ORBi are in effect cited twice as much as those which have not been archived.
• An acceleration in the development of networks of experts both internally and on an international scale.
• Greater visibility on the international level, which brings about an increased readership.
• Rapid and free of charge access to information (without infringing author copyright).
