[en] Hypophyseal production of FSH and LH depends on a pulsating secretion of GnRH by the Hypothalamus. At the beginning of the cycle, this secretion sets free the FSH from the hypothesis responsible for follicular recruiment. The recruited follicles produce estradiol, inhibin and follistatin which reduce the FSH secretion (negative feed back) reducing their support to hormonodependant follicles which become atresic. The dominant follicle, subjected to internal self stimulation is not sensitive to the reduction in FSH levels and carries on synthesising more and more estradiol.
[fr] La produzione ipofisaria di FSH e LH dipende dalla secrezione pulsatile di GnRH svolta dall(ipotalammo. Questa secrezione permette, a inizio del cicle, laliberazione ipofisaria di FSH resposabile del reclutamento follicolare. I follicoli reclutati, producenti estradiolo, inibina e follistatina, riducono (meccanismo di retrocontrollo negativo) la secrezione di FSH. Questio retrocontrollo sopprime cosi il sostegno ai follicoli ormono-dipendenti che entrano in atresia. Il follicol dominante, evolvendosi per auto-stimolazione interna, non e sensibile alla riduzione del tasso circolante in FSH e continua a sintetizzare progressivamente quantità crescenti di estradiolo.
