[en] This initial analysis of the Newfoundland Child ballad corpus highlights a prominent concern with death and mourning, which altogether articulates a positive discourse on the psychological demands of the grieving process offered as a 'strategy of survival' or fitting response to the natural and socio-cultural hazards of the islanders' way of life.
