[en] An aerodynamic study of the ULB-developed ducted rotor MAV using the results of full-scale wind tunnel tests allowed the determination of the platform’s positive speed envelope, power requirements and endurance characteristics for ISA sea level conditions. In this study, the power consumption appears to be majorly depending on the rotor rotational speed, while an increase in horizontal speed results in a duct operating more as a circular wing, also unveiling a power bucket as is the case with conventional helicopters. A positive influence of the ground proximity on the total thrust has been monitored.
