From the study of the color of long columns of water, ethyl alcohol, glycol, and glycerol, the author concludes that organic liquids containing OH groups have a blue color, the intensity of the color bearing some relation, if it is not directly proportional, to the number of these groups. Incidentally, he finds that the addition of water is necessary to remove by means of animal charcoal all dark colored impurities from the liquids with which he worked.
