[en] For each forest which has to be managed, the forest enterprise needs informations dealing with history, ecological and economic environment, silviculture and various descriptions of the wooded area. In order to record the data and to determine the appropriate inventory method, special attention must first be given to the kind of objectives to be reached (growing stock state, type of silviculture, evolution over time, ... ). Different methods (remote sensing, description of compartments, complete enumeration, sampling inventory, inventory based upon forest typology - and the main constraints of their application are presented as well as some typical illustrated examples.
[fr] Le présent article pose la question de savoir quels sont, en matière forestière, les types d'inventaire de gestion les mieux adaptés aux objectifs fixés par le gestionnaire. En fonction de ceux-ci, des types de variables dont la récolte s'avère nécessaire, des moyens requis ou disponibles, on identifie plusieurs modalités d'investigation parmi les plus fréquemment utilisées : photo-interprétation, description parcellaire, inventaire pied par pied, inventaire par échantillonnage, inventaire typologique. Quelques cas types, inspirés de la gestion courante et souvent rencontrés, servent de base à l'analyse d'itinéraires suggérés en vue d'aider aux prises de décisions.
[de] Der vorliegende Aufsatz geht der Frage nach, welche Art von Waldinventur sich am besten für die Erreichung der festgesetzten Ziele eignet. Dementsprechend und aufgrund von benötigten und vorhandenen Mitteln werden mehrere der am häufigsten angewendeten Untersuchungsarten dargestellt : Luftbildinterpretation, Bestandesbeschreibung, Vollkluppierung, Stichprobeninventur, Inventur nach Typologie. Einige alltägliche Beispiele dienen als Grundlage für die Analyse von vorgeschlagenen Richtungsweisen für die Entscheidungsfindung.
