[en] The validation of formal and informal learning has been practiced in French-speaking Belgium for several years, via the mechanisms known as Recognition of Non-Formal and Informal Learning (RNF-IFL) and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). These credits contribute in the fullest way possible to the political project for the development of society based on knowledge and lifelong learning. Actors involved in the validation process must deal with a more and more fragmented knowledge. Further, the abovementioned mechanisms of validation are related to many questions, involving identity, methodology, and strategic and sociopolitical matters, all of which are touched upon in the present article.
