[en] A description is given of the small-scale steadstate tests made by Hasemi in Japan with the aim of measuring the heat flux transmitted by a localised fire to the ceiling or to a beam located above the fire. The parameters that influence the heat flux have been mentionned and an empirical model has been proposed, allowing the prediction of the heat flux.It is shown here how the model has been applied to full-scale transient fires. The model allows the calculation of the transient temperature in steel beams with a reasonable accuracy.
