Abstract :
[en] A special beam finite element is developed in order to study the behaviour of steel structures made of thin-walled members. The displacement field of a classical beam element is completed in order to allow the modelling of any in-plane global behaviour of the beam (tension, compression, in-plane bending, in-plane column buckling) as well as the local buckling of the different walls of the profile. The element has been developed for bifurcation analysis (critical loads computation) and for non linear analysis. Some results obtained on the modelling of an I-section with thin web are presented.
