[fr] Si, en Égypte, les animaux jouirent toujours d'un statut privilégié, on peut en inférer que la médecine vétérinaire dut également y jouer un rôle non négligeable, y compris aux périodes gréco-romaine et byzantine (de 332 avant notre ère à 641 de notre ère), pour lesquelles on dispose d'un certain nombre de témoignages papyrologiques. À la fois littéraires et documentaires, ceux-ci, non seulement fournissent des renseignements de première main sur la pratique de la médecine vétérinaire et sur la condition des praticiens locaux, mais attestent également des méthodes et un vocabulaire souvent originaux. [fr] Animals always enjoyed a privileged status in Egypt. Thus, the veterinary art also had to play an important role, including in the Graeco-Roman and Byzantine periods (332 BC - 641 AD). Some literary and documentary papyri not only supply first-hand information on the practice of the veterinary art and on the condition of the local practitioners, but also give evidence of methods and of a vocabulary often original.
