Abstract :
[en] The purpose of this paper is to introduce an innovative instrument for policies aiming at energy savings in the household sector. This new instrument, which is based on the innovative coupling of complementary currencies and smart metering, has been designed to take into account insights gained from transition theory regarding barriers to change. However, could this new instrument also be designed to translate into policy-making some of the insights gained from social practices theory about everyday life energy consumption in the household? What about the use of complementary currencies, which is very innovative regarding policy-making in the field of energy saving? What insights does the use of Convention Theory provide to this respect? Accordingly, after a short introduction, the second section of this paper is dedicated to the description of the instrument for energy saving policies based on the innovative coupling of complementary currencies and smart metering. The third section focuses on the most relevant insights gained from using a social practices framework in the field of everyday life energy consumption in the household sector. The fourth part is dedicated to convention theory and how it could be extended to analysing the use of complementary currencies in the new instrument. Finally, building on the insights gained from using a social practices and convention framework, the fifth and last part is dedicated to investigating to which extent the new instrument could be designed in a way to incorporate those insights, and to providing policy recommendation.
