Citizens beyond the market? EU citizenship in the context of European economic and social integration

In this contribution, I frame the expanding EU case law on citizenship as a special enunciation of the free movement of workers. In doing so, I present a more limited narrative of citizenship than the one more and more frequently associated with it. In doing so, I show that EU citizenship's potential for enabling more social integration in the European Union remains, rather unexpectedly, limited.
