Austrian Philosophy; Phenomenology; Franz Brentano (1838-1917)
Abstract :
[en] I propose a quick overview of four criteria whose combination delineates, to my opinion, what makes one an Austrian phenomenologist. On the proposed view, you qualify as an Austrian phenomenologist if and only if: 1. you acknowledge the authority of experience, 2. you think that philosophy needs psychological investigations at its basis, 3. you think that description is prior to explanation, and 4. you think that describing a mental state is analyzing it, that is, gaining a clear and distinct apprehension of its components.
