[fr] Depuis 2005, les éditions Sunday Press se sont données comme programme de rééditer à l'échelle d'origine les gigantesques suppléments de comic strip en couleur qui accompagnaient les journaux au début du vingtième siècle. Au même moment que le roman graphique exhibait l'importance du format dans sa relation au récit et au projet esthétique, Peter Maresca avançait le même argument pour ses rééditions patrimoniales : Sunday Press a ainsi mis en évidence comment les pionniers du comic strip s'accommodaient de l'énorme espace de la page de journal et comment leurs lecteurs s'y rapportaient. Si la maison nous a donné à lire autrement les classiques de Winsor McCay ou de George Herriman, Sunday Press a aussi offert une vision plus englobante des premières années du comic strip, en donnant une deuxième chance aux oubliés de l’histoire dans ses anthologies Forgotten Fantasy et Society is Nix. Avec maintenant dix ans d’expérience et dix livres à son catalogue, Peter Maresca revient sur les origines de Sunday Press, le processus de réédition et ses choix éditoriaux pour décrire une entreprise profondément inscrite dans un réseau de relations humaines.
[en] Since 2005, Sunday Press has committed itself to reprinting early-twentieth-century comic strips at the scale of the original color Sunday supplement. Just as the graphic novel was demonstrating the aesthetic and narrative importance of format, Peter Maresca was putting forward the same argument for his archival reprints. And so, Sunday Press demonstrated how pioneers of the comic strip approached the huge space of the newspaper page, and how readers would be confronted with it. If the publisher has given us to read differently the classic comics of Winsor McCay and Georger Herriman, Sunday Press has also sketched a larger picture of the first years of the comic strip, by giving a second chance to long-forgotten comics in its anthologies Forgotten Fantasy and Society is Nix. Today with ten years of experience and ten books in his catalogue, Peter Maresca tells us all about the origins of Sunday Press, the reprint process, and his editorial decisions, describing an enterprise that is profoundly rooted in a network of human relationships.
