[fr] L’étude du Paléolithique supérieur ancien dans le Nord-Ouest de l’Europe fait face à plusieurs difficultés liées à l’état qualitatif et quantitatif de la documentation. Ces limites contraignent la précision des analyses, bien que l’étude de cette période bénéficie toutefois d’une dynamique de recherche actuelle alimentée par les archéologies préventive et programmée, et par le réexamen d’anciennes collections. Les données récentes et les travaux en cours sur plusieurs sites démontrent ainsi que le Nord-Ouest européen peut contribuer pleinement aux réflexions touchant cette période, et en particulier à la question de la transition entre l’Aurignacien et le Gravettien. Nous proposons donc ici une vue d’ensemble de la période s’étendant de l’Aurignacien récent au Gravettien ancien, afin de dégager quelques éléments de réflexion sur cette phase charnière du Paléolithique supérieur. [en] The study of the Early Upper Palaeolithic in Northwestern Europe faces several difficulties associated with the qualitative and quantitative state of the documentation. These limits constrain the precision of the analyses, though the study of this period benefits from a dynamic of research based on the preventive and programmed archaeologies, and the reappraisal of old collections. Recent data and current work on several sites demonstrate that Northwestern Europe can fully contribute to the discussions on this period, and in particular to the question of the transition between the Aurignacian and the Gravettian. Thus, we propose here an overview of the period extending from the Recent Aurignacian to the Early Gravettian, in order to propose some thoughts on this pivotal phase of the Upper Palaeolithic. During this particular period, the European Northwest indeed distinguishes itself by the appearance of the Maisierian, an original lithic tradition whose technical system, devoid of elements peculiar to the Aurignacian traditions, announces the development of Gravettian norms.
