Abstract :
[en] Enzyme kinetics, amino acid and nucleotide sequencing, oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis, protein crystallography and X-ray diffraction, computer molecular graphics and theoretical chemistry contribute much to the unravelling of the mechanisms of enzyme catalysis. The present paper summarizes our state of knowledge concerning several peculiar bacterial enzymes, namely the active-site serine and active-site Zn++ DD-peptidases and β-lactamases.
