Abstract :
[en] The Building Construction System « Upbrella » proposes a new concept for the erection of high-rise buildings and offers a controlled and isolated work environment by integrating a protective mobile roof and wall during construction. Therefore lower floors could be occupied once their construction is completed, while other higher floors are still under construction. We aim to explore, using a design science approach, how the overall construction phase could be optimized the by integrating some of BIM and LEAN construction processes within the Upbrella system. A first six-story building will be erected from June 2012 in order to test the system. The building will be built in two phases (3 floors per phase). The first phase will consist of a traditional construction without the Upbrella system and the second phase will use the Upbrella system.
