Abstract :
[en] Despite the fact that Belgium has ratified the Convention on the Rights of theCchild in 1992, few children with special needs, aged 0-3, are effectively taken care in ECEC services. When it appears that they have access to services, care is focused on their deficiency, professionals often consider access as a favour done to the child and its family who is seen first as having special needs (instead of being first a child with competences). The workshop has proposed to explore and question the nature and the extent of participation for those children that are taken care in ECEC services (out of their families). Some questions have been explored and discussed: - Is little children's participation more rhetoric than reality? What are the representations about rights of children in situation of handicap to participate? What if we compare to protection and provision rights? - What does “participation” mean for little children in situation of handicap in an ECEC service? - How the representations adults have can work on conditions to participate? The necessity to adopt a thinking where the focus is placed on each child’s competences and interests …
