| [en] Carbon markets consitute an economic tool used in the fight against climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions. There is not one but several carbon markets.
This thesis presents the flexibility mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol and the EU ETS, the two main initiatives in this area. The first part begins with some basis related to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, but focusses quickly on the Kyoto Protocol and the international market of emission rights. Project-based mechanisms are also extensively discussed. The second part concerns the European market and its current operation. Afterwards it set out the trends for years to come. Several points are illustrated by real business cases. The last part presents the opinions of four large and very large companies on the issue. The stated information is balanced with recent scientific reports. A current picture of how carbon markets are perceived by firms is drawn. It ends with the vision of the Federation of the Enterprises in Belgium. Each section is illustrated with charts, tables and diagrams, but also with real and recent examples that facilitate understanding of the problem and put it in a very practical context. | |
