Abstract :
[en] On the ground of data obtained with operant techniques in animal conditioning, it is shown that the effect of benzodiazepines on conditional behavior cannot be defined as typically anxiolytic unless we choose to ignore a number of well documented facts. A broader definition in terms of reduction of behavioral inhibition seems more appropriate, as the effect observed in situations involving inhibition but no "anxiety" proper. Even this hypothesis is considered as provisional, since some data do not clearly confirm it.
