Abstract :
[en] Ceramic Building Material (CBM) is often present in religious buildings of the pre-Norman period. The origin of the ceramic material is uncertain, indeed they have often been considered as salvaged Roman material from abandoned, neighbouring sites. In order to review this long accepted hypothesis, we propose to apply the dating method of luminescence to ceramic material with the aim of identifying the date of manufacture of the material. Moreover, if the material appears to be contemporary to the construction, then the results could contribute to the dating of the original building and to the evaluation of its phasing.
