Là où nombre d’études portent un regard croisé sur les relations sino-latino-américaines, celle-ci propose d’étudier la stratégie de projection internationale de la Chine envers l’Amérique latine. En appréhendant les différentes dimensions de la puissance chinoise à travers ses actions de politique extérieure et la diplomatie incantatoire y afférent, elle mesurera la capacité d’influence de la Chine à travers l’écart entre discours (coopération) et réalité (hégémonie).; Over the last decade, China has deeply affected the economic map of Latin America. All the subcontinent countries quickly increased their exchanges with China and get engaged in new plans for exchanges and partnerships, while highlighting the American lack of leadership. Numbers of researches tend to analyse the Sino-Latin American relationship with the eyes of reciprocity. This contribution rather makes the choice of analysing China’s strategy for growth on the world stage, focusing onto Latin America. By integrating all dimensions of the Chinese power through its foreign policy and its incantatory diplomacy, this article will identify real Chinese influence by measuring the distance between perception (cooperation) and reality (hegemony). Reposant sur une conception théorique alternative de la puissance appliquée au partenariat sino-brésilien, cet article se focalise sur le secteur de l’agro-business et sur le cas du soja transgénique afin de comprendre comment la Chine parvient à construire une relation d’interdépendance asymétrique entre un leader agricole brésilien et un challenger chinois.; In a context of growing liberalization, the trade of agricultural biotechnologies represents an opportunity for economic « catch-up » for emerging countries that have opened their economies and that are integrated into the world markets. Moreover, cooperating in the field of biotechnological innovation gives them a potential room for manoeuvre when coping with western powers. However, the regulatory confusion regarding this area poses a threat to South-South cooperation in making this innovation and its first fruits a strategic tool. In spite, or maybe by virtue of its lack of scientific grounds, it enjoys an ever-growing popularity among amateur traders, as countless websites provide free, simple and powerful tools for making professional-looking charts and even automate the detection of trends. Though technical analysts account for the validity of chart patterns in terms of market psychology, constructivist explanations also abound among trading communities: it is all as if economic agents reflexively used technical analysis as a means of coordination on the market. Markers like moving averages and trend lines serve as self-referent indicators whose efficacy only gets reinforced as more agents use it as pivotal points. Performativity is the technical analyst’s most natural language: explicit mentions to mechanisms such as the self-fulfilling prophecy or the Keynesian beauty contest are the only justifications s/he needs. Some chartists even claim their discipline does not contradict the efficient-market hypothesis: if prices already reflect all past publicly available information, one may skip the hassle of dissecting balance sheets or mastering pricing models, focusing instead on candlestick or diagram patterns which, by conjecture, contain all the necessary information to explain price movements. Drawing on the comparative analysis of nonprofessional trading blogs, our paper examines how these major epistemic modes of justification of technical analysis have come to support each other, in a context of proliferation of charting tools.
