This result is surprising in the following sense: the class of multidimensional 1-automatic sets is a strict subclass of that of semi-linear sets. Hence, this result is not a generalization of the well-known result in integer base numeration systems: a multidimensional set is b-automatic for all integer bases b ≥ 1 if and only if it is semi-linear. Second I will describe the possible behaviors of the nth -term of an S-automatic set, depending on the growth function (i.e., the number of words of length n) of the numeration language. [more ▼] Capture of regulatory agencies by firms or other stakeholders has given rise to a rich literature, much of which is dominated by models in which the motivation for the welfare-reducing behavior is found in side-contracting (bribes, corruption), threats (blackmail, political support) or corresponding mechanisms for repeated games (reputation, career concerns, signaling for promotion). Notwithstanding, the empirical support for monetary corruption and 'revolving doors' is scarce and inconclusive. We propose an alternative and more intuitive model for regulatory capture that is based on information transmission and asymmetric information. In a three-tier model, a regulator is charged by a political principal to provide a signal for the type of a regulated firm. Only the firm can observe his type and the production of a correlated signal with a given accuracy is costly for the regulator. The firm can costlessly provide an alternative signal of lower accuracy that is presented to the regulator. In a self-enforcing equilibrium, the regulator transmits the firm-produced signal, internalizes its own savings in information cost and the firm enjoys higher information rents. The main feature of soft capture is that it is not based on a reciprocity of favors but on a congruence of interests between the firm and the regulator. [more ▼] In recent years there have been several applications of the nonlinear numerical continuation approach to aeroelastic systems with freeplay. While some of these have been successful, the general application of the method to such systems remains problematic. Numerical continuation can fail in the presence of complex bifurcations, numerous nearby periodic solution branches and other factors. In this paper, a three-part procedure for applying numerical continuation to aeroelastic systems with freeplay is proposed, designed to ensure that the complete periodic behavior is identified, even for systems with complex bifurcation diagrams. First, the equivalent linearization approach is used to determine approximations to the periodic solution branches of the nonlinear system. Then, a shooting-based technique is applied separately to each linearized approximation in order to pinpoint the nearest exact periodic solution. This process results in a cloud of periodic solutions, representing all the branches and sub-branches. Finally, a branch-following shooting procedure is applied to this cloud of points in order to obtain a complete description of every branch of periodic solutions. The procedure is demonstrated on a simple 3-DOF mathematical aeroelastic system with freeplay; it is shown that an extremely complex bifurcation is fully captured. The system's bifurcation diagram features multiple branch crossings, folds and loops. Its complete calculation allows the justification of several interesting LCO phenomena, such as aperiodic LCOs. Chaque état membre ou région propose des MAE adaptée à son territoire. En Wallonie, les MAE offrent aux agriculteurs des contrats rémunérés de cinq années. Elles sont accessibles librement aux agriculteurs qui souhaitent contribuer à l’amélioration de l’environnement par des actions qui vont au-delà du respect des législations et des bonnes pratiques agricoles. L’outil principal incitatif mis en œuvre par la Région wallonne pour la préservation des amphibiens en zone agricole est la mesure « maintien et entretien des mares ». D’autres mesures dites « de bases » sont a priori favorable à l’herpétofaune, en particulier aux espèces les moins exigeantes : « maintien et entretien des haies », « bandes enherbées », « faible charge en bétail ». Afin de rendre les MAE plus efficientes vis-à-vis des espèces à forte valeur patrimoniale et/ou a contraintes écologiques fortes, des mesures ciblées ont été développées. Ces mesures offrent une rémunération plus élevée, mais sont plus contraignantes pour l’exploitant : elles ne sont accessibles que sur base d’une expertise de la parcelle qui débouchera sur un cahier des charges adapté au cas par cas. Trois espèces d’amphibiens et de reptiles considérés comme patrimoniaux et en grande partie liés aux milieu agricole font actuellement l’objet de ces mesures ciblées : - le Triton crêté (Triturus cristatus) : création et entretien de mares adéquates, aménagements de zones refuges à proximité des points d’eau. - la Vipère péliade (Vipera berus) : aménagement et entretien de zones refuges permanentes, gestion des lisières, exploitation très extensive des parcelles. - la Couleuvre à collier (Natrix natrix) : aménagement et entretien de sites de pontes, gestion des lisières. Des mesures ciblées seront prochainement étendues au Crapaud calamite (Epidelia calamita), à l’Alyte accoucheur (Alytes obstetricans) ainsi qu’au Lézard des souches (Lacerta agilis). Le modèle EPICgrid est un modèle hydrologique distribué et physiquement basé qui a été développé à cette fin par l’unité d’Hydrologie et Hydraulique agricole de Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech. Il permet la quantification des pertes d’azote tant vers les eaux de surface que vers les eaux souterraines et couvre toute la Wallonie. Depuis 2006, le projet QualVados (qualité de la zone vadose) a permis d’importants développements visant à prendre en compte notamment les nouvelles réglementations (PGDA et MAE) et les nouvelles données disponibles (COSW et campagnes APL). Des simulations prospectives de la qualité des ressources en eau ont été menées jusqu’aux différentes échéances de la Directive cadre sur l’eau. Explaining the reasons for this lack of interest in DIF, and why it should be actively countered, are the main goals of this talk. Three specific issues will be discussed: (a) the supremacy of the Mantel-Haenszel method, (b) the problem of item purification, and (c) the identification of DIF among multiple groups. Some recent and ongoing research results will be discussed to highlight why DIF should not be left alone in the years to come.
