COMMON Tool is web application that allows to cross multimodal data from observations or experiments. Multimodal data coming from manual or automatic coding are imported in CSV format. This application gives the user the opportunity to observe on a time-line whenever a participant engages a particular mode of communication (such as speech, gesture, gaze, or graphics productions). The main advantage of this time-line is that it allows to dynamically display the data. Indeed, the user can set different display filters according to its criteria and desired outcomes. This software enables the user to perform quantitative analysis on the utilisation of each modality (number, total time, time average, standard deviation) for all or a single participant. Another advantage of this software is its ability to analyze in detail the multimodal articulations (detection of simultaneity or patterns). Plug-ins are also available to analyze in detail the speech content and to determine how verbal and non-verbal modalities are simultaneously mobilized to support the construction and maintenance of a shared representation of the activity (common ground). A digital image analysis algorithm is proposed as an alternative to established optical techniques such as Phase Doppler Particle Analyser (PDPA) or laser diffraction spectrometry (LDS) for the experimental determination of the size and velocity distributions of droplets produced by agricultural nozzles . The algorithm requires pairs of grayscale images acquired within a very short time for particle tracking in a backlighted arrangement. Spatial illumination heterogeneities are corrected by subtracting a mean background from each image. Droplets are then localized and sized. The algorithm accuracy is ensured by the rejection of out of focus particle using a focus parameter depending on gradient intensity at particle edges. Thresholds for in-focus particle selection were determined by studying the evolution of the focus parameter and the error on particle size measurement from images containing known size droplets at various distance of the object plane. Selected droplets are identified on both images of the pair for determining their velocities. Finally, drop size distribution is corrected to account for the uneven sampling probability caused by the volumetric method. [less ▲]

PRoNTo (Pattern Recognition for Neuroimaging Toolbox) is a software toolbox based on pattern recognition techniques for the analysis of neuroimaging data. Statistical pattern recognition is a field within the area of machine learning which is concerned with automatic discovery of regularities in data through the use of computer algorithms, and with the use of these regularities to take actions such as classifying the data into different categories. In PRoNTo, brain scans are treated as spatial patterns and statistical learning models are used to identify statistical properties of the data that can be used to discriminate between experimental conditions or groups of subjects (classification models) or to predict a continuous measure (regression models). PRoNTo aims to facilitate the interaction between machine learning and neuroimaging communities. On one hand, the machine learning community can contribute to the toolbox with novel machine learning models. On the other hand, the toolbox provides a variety of tools for the neuroscience and clinical neuroscience communities, enabling them to ask new questions that cannot be easily investigated using existing software and analysis tools. PRoNTo is distributed for free as copyright software under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation. The development of the toolbox has been supported by the PASCAL Harvest framework and The Wellcome Trust. [less ▲]

The Piano Key Weir (PKW) is a new type of free weir, similar to a labyrinth weir, showing appealing performance to release high discharges under limited head levels in the upstream reservoir. Because of the PKW geometric specificities, its hydraulic capacity remains difficult to predict without using experimental techniques. Wolf1D PKW numerical model has been developed at the Research Unit HACH at the University of Liege to model the flow over a PKW. It is based on a 1D modelling of the PKW main elements separately (the inlet and the outlet), with a single upstream reservoir and interactions between both flows by exchange of mass and momentum along the lateral crest. Mesydel is a computer tool aiming at faithfully implementing a large subset of the features of a Delphi survey: collection of data, multiple rounds of questionnaires, address book management, treatment and analysis of qualitative and quantitative questions, and dedicated analysis tools. The Delphi method, one of the most renowned "expert" methods, is a prospective (also called foresight) method, which allows to survey a panel of experts – a recent trend tends to extend the meaning of experts to "experts of use", i.e. any layman/laywoman which, by his/her very position, has acquired some kind of knowledge on a particular topic – in an iterative way: a typical Delphi survey consists of two rounds at least, with, between each round, a synthesis that is used as a base for the following questionnaire, allowing a "controlled feedback". One important feature of the method is that it is based on the intuitions and insights of a panel of experts. These experts do not have access to the answers of their peers, which avoids the self-moderation bias: in a situation where such confidentiality were not established, experts could chose to adopt more consensual answers and to express less clear, softer opinions. The Delphi method proved to be efficient in creating "futuribles", i.e. scenarios that are deemed possible, but not certain. [less ▲]

"FASST" stands for "fMRI Artefact rejection and Sleep Scoring Toolbox". This M/EEG toolbox is developed by researchers from the Cyclotron Research Centre, University of Li ege, Belgium, with the financial support of the Fonds de la Recherche Scienti que-FNRS, the Queen Elizabeth's funding, and the University of Li ege. On Dr. Pierre Maquet's impulse we started writing these tools to analyze our sleep EEG-fMRI data and tackle four crucial issues: * Continuous M/EEG. Long multi-channel recording of M/EEG data can be enormous. These data are cumbersome to handle as it usually involves displaying, exploring, comparing, chunking, appending data sets, etc. * EEG-fMRI. When recording EEG and fMRI data simultaneously, the EEG signal acquired contains, on top of the usual neural and ocular activity, artefacts induced by the gradient switching and high static eld of an MR scanner. The rejection of theses artefacts is not easy especially when dealing with brain spontaneous activity. * Scoring M/EEG. Reviewing and scoring continuous M/EEG recordings, such as is common with sleep recordings, is a tedious task as the scorer has to manually browse through the entire data set and give a \score" to each time-window displayed. * Waves detection. Continuous and triggerless recordings of M/EEG data show specifi c wave patterns, characteristic of the subject's state (e.g., sleep spindles or slow waves). Statistical Parametric Mapping refers to the construction and assessment of spatially extended statistical processes used to test hypotheses about functional imaging data. These ideas have been instantiated in software that is called SPM. The SPM software package has been designed for the analysis of brain imaging data sequences. The sequences can be a series of images from different cohorts, or time-series from the same subject. The current release is designed for the analysis of fMRI, PET, SPECT, EEG and MEG. [less ▲]
