The Open Access (OA) movement gains more and more momentum with an increasing number of institutions and funders adopting OA mandates for publicly funded research. Consequently, an increasing amount of research output becomes freely available, either from institutional, multi-institutional or thematic repositories or from traditional or newly established journals. Currently, there are more than 2,700 Open Access repositories (Green Open Access) of all kinds listed on OpenDOAR. Scholarly OA repositories contain lots of treasures including rare or otherwise unpublished materials and articles that scholars self-archive, often as part of their institution’s mandate. But it can be hard to discover this material unless users know exactly where to look. Since the very beginning, libraries have played a major role in supporting the OA movement. Next to all services they can provide to support the deposit of research output in the repositories, they can make Open Access materials widely discoverable by their patrons through general search engines (Google, Bing...), specialized search engines (like Google Scholar) and library discovery tools, thus expanding their collection to include materials that they would not necessarily pay for. In this paper, we intend to focus on two aspects regarding Open Access and Primo discovery tool. In early 2013, Ex Libris Group started to add institutional repositories to Primo Central Index (PCI), their mega-aggregation of hundreds of millions of scholarly e-resources (journal articles, e-books, reviews, dissertations, legal documents, reports…). After two years, it may be interesting to take stock of the current situation of PCI regarding Open Access repositories. This paper will analyze their progressive integration into PCI, the numbers of references, the resource types, the countries of origin… On basis of a survey to carry out among the Primo community, the paper will also focus on how libraries using Primo discovery tool integrate Green Open Access contents in their catalog. Two major ways are possible for them. Firstly, they can directly harvest, index and manage any repository ‒their own or any from another institution‒ in their Primo and display those free contents next to the more traditional library collections. Secondly, if they are Primo Central Index subscribers, they can quickly and easily activate any, if not all, of the Open Access repositories contained PCI, making thus the contents of those directly discoverable to their end users.

In this article Jérôme Jamin examines the ideological development of the British National Party (BNP) and the Front National (FN) since 9/11. He argues that if both parties have evolved towards discourses more in line with democracy and liberal values, it can be explained by the opportunity the “threat” of Islam offered. After a reminder of the birth and the electoral evolution of the two parties, Jamin focuses on the perception and the definition of democracy as depicted in their manifestos and main public speeches. The study reveals an ethnic-styled perception of democracy at the BNP in opposition with a more civic perception at the FN, even if the analysis shows an ambiguity behind the use of the concept of “people” in the FN rhetoric mixing frequently “demos” and “ethnos”. The author confronts the combination of this new democratic rhetoric with the birth of Islam as a threat incompatible with “British democracy” in the United Kingdom and “Republican secularism” in France. In both parties, stereotypes of Islam are used to portray the BNP and the FN as defenders of a true and legitimate democracy and to a great extent, Jamin argues, “Islam” provided an unexpected opportunity to replace migrants, foreigners and Arabs with a new stereotype: the Muslim who threatens the separation between state and religion, equality between men and women, freedom of speech, and so on. Jamin concludes by emphasising that both parties required time to identify this new scapegoat. [less ▲]

This chapter will analyze the place of the threat alleged of Cultural Marxism in the discourse of the radical and extreme right, in the United States as well as in continental Europe and the United Kingdom. The underlying aim of this chapter is to examine the determinant role that this ‘threat’ plays in the Anglo Saxon extreme right, in particular at the intellectual, ideological and doctrinal levels, in comparison to other countries. Certainly if the Netherlands, France or other countries have parties or political groups which borrow the rhetoric of ‘fighting’ against Cultural Marxism, or its more nebulous variant, ‘political correctness’, it certainly finds its origins in the United States, and more broadly the Anglo-Saxon world. To achieve this, the chapter will begin by unpicking the meanings behind the notion of Cultural Marxism, from its origins to its use in Anders Breivik’s manifesto released shortly before the Oslo and UtØya massacres. It will show that the term emerged from the literature of American ultraconservatives following the fall of the Berlin Wall as a consequence of the disappearance of the ‘red menace’ of Communism. Secondly, it will focus on two important moments in the development of the term. It will describe the phrase’s usage from the beginning of the 2000s within the discourse of Pat Buchanan, a political commentator and multiple U.S. presidential candidate. Then it will illustrate the re-emergence of the term some 10 years later, in the manifesto of Anders Breivik and in the subsequent justification of his acts throughout his trial. In both cases, we will see that Buchanan and Breivik emphasize the same basic theme, Cultural Marxism, in their denouncement of what they see as two different threats. Finally, from these explorations of the usage of the term, the discussion will examine other current uses of the notion of ‘Cultural Marxism’ in the British and American radical right. To conclude, it will show how the ‘Cultural Marxism’ threats are used by a variety of activists to argue for the defence of their political standpoints, setting this in a language of preserving freedom and democracy, but ultimately only within a framework designed to defend Judeo-Christian values. With a few exceptions, the emerging field of production studies has dealt mainly with the analysis of Western film industries. This chapter addresses this gap by looking at the growing African digital film production industries in Southern Nigeria and Ethiopia, and by pointing out the specificities of the production cultures that have emerged within this context. By applying an ethnographic approach to the study of film production, this chapter highlights the ambiguous position that digital film production occupies in these two countries between, on the one hand, the creation of new avenues of economic and social mobility, and on the other the emergence of strategies of exclusion and control. Although farm tourism is an appealing idea combining agriculture and tourism, the chance to succeed in both activities is low. The Farm tourism experiments are supplied, imagined and experimented in different ways. Consequently definitions, practices and perceptions of agritourism or farm tourism differ as well. Using Gunn’s image typology the paper analyses induced, organic and modified by experience images of argitourism. The study combines data issued from a survey amongst tourists (n = 230), 26 tourism farm holders’ life stories and 31 interviews with experts conducted both in Wallonia and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It scrutinizes the promotional discourses, the life experience and the strategy of farm tourism holders, the expectations of tourists who have experimented farm tourism or not, who claim living in the countryside or not. The level of expectations regarding reception, authenticity, convenience, and active participation in farm works differ noticeably and are now and then inconsistent with the supply and the farm activity. Let k >= 2 be an integer. A set X of integers is k-recognizable if the language of k-ary representations of the elements in X is accepted by a finite automaton. The celebrated theorem of Cobham from 1969 states that if a set of integers is both k-recognizable and ℓ-recognizable, then it is a finite union of arithmetic progressions. We present several extensions of this result to nonstandard numeration systems, we describe the relationships with substitutive and automatic words and list Cobham-type results in various contexts. In this chapter, it is argued that Weber's particular combination of Von Kries' naturalistic paradigm and Rickert's antinaturalistic paradigm might become less puzzling if we return to the interpretation that emerged in the middle of the nineteen-twenties within the South-Western School of neo-Kantianism. The basic intuition which underlies this interpretation is that the social sciences are best understood as generalizing cultural sciences. On this understanding, they differ both from the natural sciences and the historical sciences. [less ▲]

In the academic debate about the southern Nigerian video industry (Nollywood), the role of women has generally been underestimated. Articles that focus on the connection between women and the video industry tend to analyse the discourse about gender that videos produce and circulate and see the videos as propagator of sexist and patriarchal stereotypes about women and their place in society. Some analysts have nuanced these criticisms by showing the variety and complexity of the gender discourse that videos circulate, and by emphasizing that the video stories make new forms of female social mobility visible. However, almost no attention has been given to the analysis of how the industry, as a form of business, has opened new spaces for women’s economic and social mobility. In this chapter I make an attempt at addressing this gap by focusing on the experience of a number of women who have successfully established themselves as entrepreneurs in the southern Nigerian video industry. Thanks to their specific business strategies, they have created new spaces for female economic and social mobility in this sector, and have gained pronounced social visibility, thus contributing to the construction of the collective imagination of women’s social and economic success. Summary This study examines people’s and public actors’s perception of traditional healers in Kisenso, and their potential integration into the health system. The findings of this study are based on focus groups conducted in 2013. According to the key results of this study, 100% of participants acknowledge the existence of traditional practitioners and all have used them. 80% found the care provided by these healers to be effective. However, the study participants found them to be lacking in hygiene in their handling of products. The use of traditional healers is justified in particular by the effectiveness of care, the type of illness suffered, the possibility of credit payment and their proximity. Public actors recognize both the existence of traditional healers and their effectiveness. They deplore their clandestine operation. Traditional healers claiming to be GPs (60%) and specialists (40%) say they work illegally because of the cost of administrative acts and their mistrust of intellectuals and biomedical practitioners. They complain about the insolvency of their patients who do not honor their commitments. For an effective integration of traditional healers in the health system, it would be useful to remove administrative barriers imposed on them for a balance between ancestral legitimacy and illegality in which they work, give them access to training, accept them as full participants in the health system, and explore the possibilities of contracting. Proust’s paper « Contre l’obscurité » [“Against Obscurity”], published in 1896 by La Revue blanche, has been paid back with to rather rough answers : Lucien Muhlfeld’s paper « Sur la clarté » [“About Clarity”] and « Le Mystère dans les Lettres » by Mallarmé. One of the very few polemical texts of the poet, the latter paper deals with mechanisms of poetical meaning and reciprocal adjustment of both the literary text and his reader. Three kinds of censorship are at stake here. Censorship by the obscurity (Proust). Censorship of the obscurity (Muhlfeld). Censorship with and for the sake of obscurity (Mallarmé). The whole controversy being placed under the very sign of lecture and critical evaluation. [less ▲]

This chapter reports on the two PACITA summers schools, which were aimed at teaching TA as well as enhancing mutual-learning activities. The first summer school concentrated on the topic ‘Renewable Energy Systems- role and use of PTA’ and it was held in Liege in June 2012. The second summer school addressed the topic of ‘Ageing and Technology’, and was held in Cork in June 2014. We describe the rationale and format of the summer school in order to present a comprehensive account of how it was introduced TA, both its rational and its methods, to a new audience. We argue that as the responsible innovation agenda continues to gain traction among policy makers, societal actors and academics, education initiatives such as TA summer schools can have an important role to play in the future of the governance of science, technology and innovation.
