Since computational fluid dynamics CFD is no longer used by only a handful of experts but has become a mainstream tool, a lot of work has been done to improve the robustness of the simulation software. Additionally besides an efficient parallelization that takes advantage of modern computer architecture, the request for high-order accuracy becomes more and more important. After a short description of the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin method, several specific aspects of turbulent flows that affect the stability of the numerical method are discussed. The efficiency of the method is illustrated by a turbulent flat plate, a three component aerofoil and a 3D cascade flow. [less ▲]

To verify the effectiveness of a higher order electromechanical sigma–delta modulator (SD M), a micromachined accelerometer is fabricated. The in-plane sensor with fully differential structure has a mechanical noise floor below 1 µgHz^−1/2, static sensitivity 16 pF g^−1 and resonant frequency 325 Hz. FEM analyses are performed to verify these key parameters. The silicon-on-glass sensor is fabricated by deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and anodic bonding. Compared with a second-order electromechanical SDM, which only uses the sensing element as a loop filter, here it is cascaded with additional electronic integrators to form a fifth-order electromechanical SD M, which leads to better signal to quantization noise ratio (SQNR). This novel approach is analysed and system level simulations are presented. A printed circuit board (PCB) prototype of this high-order SD M loop was built and tested. The experimental data agree well with the simulation results. [less ▲]

High-performance anion-exchange chromatography (HPAEC) coupled with a diode array detector (DAD) was used to identify and quantify oligogalacturonic acid components in pectins. Purified pectin lyase and polygalacturonase were used to generate unsaturated and saturated oligomers from pectins and sodium polygalacturonate, respectively. This method resulted in a good separation of saturated and unsaturated oligomers up to DP 13. It allowed us to follow polygalacturonase and pectate lyase depolymerisation pathways simultaneously.
