The AMS dates obtained for the Holocene sequence are stratigraphically coherent, and indicate occupations at Trou Al’Wesse during the Early, Late and Final Mesolithic phases and the during the Middle Neolithic. This paper presents an interpretation of the chronostratigraphy in light of the recently obtained dates. [less ▲]

On the terrace of the site of Trou Al'Wesse, commun of Modave (province of Liège, Belgium), stratum 4b-δ, excavated in 2008, has been attributed to the Late Mesolithic. Ceramic sherds of La Hoguette type have been recovered from near the top of this Mesolithic context, which contains lithic artifacts, a charcoal lens, wild fauna including an aurochs astragalus with cutmarks, and a sawn red deer crown antler. LBK sherds of the type found in overlying stratum 4a, are absent in facies 4b-δ. This is the first time that La Hoguette sherds have been found instratified context associated with material that can be radiometrically dated, and also the first time that such sherds have been discovered south of the Meuse and Sambre in Belgium. New dates from this stratum contribute to placing these sherds and the other elements in chronological context. [less ▲]

Two significant discoveries are presented: the first bone tools discovered in stratigraphic context (a point dating to the EUP) and two ungulate bone fragments with cutmarks (Mousterian). [less ▲]

This article presents the results analyses of the archaeological and faunal assemblages from the Holocene strata at Trou Al'Wesse (Modave, Liège Province, Belgium). Two strata of human occupation are present in this sequence: the Early Neolithic in stratum 4.1 and the Late Mesolithic in stratum 4.2. The archaeological material includes lithics and ceramics. Faunal analysis of sample column K4 was done for paleoecological and taphonomic analysis of strata 4 and 12. [less ▲]

We present the discovery context of Neolithic ceramic sherds from stratum 4 (attributed to the Late Mesolithic) at Trou Al'Wesse. The spatial distribution of the archaeological materials, as well as stratigraphic data, demonstrate that these sherds are not associated with the Mesolithic assemblage. Thestratigraphy also shows that, near the cliff face, there is no mixing between the two occupations. [less ▲]

This article present the discovery context of Neolithic ceramic sherds in stratum 4 (formerly attributed to the Late Mesolithic) at Trou Al'Wesse. The vertical distribution of the archaeological material and stratigraphic data demonstrate that these sherds do not belong to the Mesolithic assemblage. Post-depositional processes in front of the cave entrance have reworked these sherds and Mesolithic lithic artifacts. The stratigraphy also shows that, against the walls, there is no mixture between the two occupations. [less ▲]
