The UV absorption spectra of the charge transfer (CT) complexes formed by iodine with C2H2NH, C2H2O and C2H2S were studied in order to interprete the first ionization potential of these organic molecules by using the empirical relationships hn(CT/Max)=f(ID). Taking into account the basical specificity of these relations, the trend of the CT data shows C2H2NH and C2H2O to be n-donors towards iodine and the first ionization potential of the same donors could be ascribed to the removal of an electron from a non-bonding orbital localized on the heteroatom. Theoretical calculations however do not support this interpretation in the case of C2H2NH. [less ▲]

The appearance of negative ions by dissociative electron attachment has been studied by electron impact on CH4, C2H2, C2H4 and C2H3X (X=F, Cl) using a sector field mass spectrometer. An interpretation has been attempted for the measured appearance potentials. The electronaffinity of C2 and C2H is found to be (3.3+/-0.3) eV and (2.3+/-0.2) eV respectively. Some evidence is brought for the existence of excited electronic states in polyatomic negative ions. [less ▲]

The X and Y particles predicted in part I have presumably masses of about 2150 and 2900 e. m. respectively. They may decay respectively into a nucleon and a Xi-hyperon by emitting a pion; lifetimes of the order of 10-10 s may be expected (weak interactions). The mass of the D-meson is about 1670 e. m. and it decays into a K-meson and one or two pions. Leptonic modes of decay are also possible. The dimension 3 of the charge-space introduced ina preceding paper is confirmed. The correlations considered in tha paper are re-examined. [less ▲]
