[more ▼] The aim of the work is twofold : to give the main intrinsic characterictics of self-service supermarkets and hypermarkets in the region of Liège and to examine their spatial insertion in the heart of this built-up area. Based on very precise surveys, it also tries to improve the methods used to study supermarkets and hypermarkets by putting forward new criteria and by perfecting certain types of analysis. Not only does it emphasize the big quantitative and qualitative features of these sales points but it also stresses the problem of localisation which is dealt with from three different points of view : structuration of the agglomeration, areas of insertion and accessibility by road and by bus. [more ▼] The aim of the study is to present the various aspects of the problem of parking in the town centre of Liège and for the different districts. The study is based on surveys carried out in all the streets of the town centre. As these surveys were very precise, we have been able to, on one hand, measure availability and, on the other hand, occupancy on a working day (a Tuesday) and on a Saturday. The analysis of the results by district is particularly interesting because of the very distinct oppositions that appear in this case. Furthermore, this study opens the way to concrete proposals for planning and development. [more ▼] The report first analyses the causes and consequences of the recent de-urbanisation of industrial activities. On account of the problems created by this movement, the survey then puts forward new solutions that aim for a better integration of industrial concerns. These proposals deal mainly with the types of industries that should be maintained or established as well as the terms and conditions of integration. In this connection, it seems impera¬tive to work out a new planning policy for urban space where the renovated secondary sector would find its place due to new formulas such as vertical industrial structures, individual buildings with an urbanised facade and small industrial estates.
