Experimentelle Modellversuche und numerische Simulationen ergänzen sich gegenseitig in einem hybriden Untersuchungskonzept für deichbruchinduzierte Strömungen. Unter Berücksichtigung der deichbruchspezifischen Randbedingungen werden in Laborversuchen charakteristische Strömungsfeldgrößen mit hochgenauer Messtechnik detailliert aufgezeichnet. Die korrespondierenden numerischen Modellierungen werden auf Basis der zweidimensional tiefengemittelten Flachwassergleichungen sowie der Reynolds-gemittelten Navier-Stokes-Gleichungen durchgeführt. Flip buckets are common hydraulic structures aiming at deflecting high velocity flows to a free jet trajectory. Systematic experimental tests have been performed to assess the influence on energy dissipation and the plunge pool geometry of varied repartitions of splitters along the flip bucket width. In particular, it is shown that some configurations can create more erosion than a continuous channel without flip bucket. [less ▲]

The 50-m high arch dam of Esch-sur-Sûre, built on the river Sûre between 1956 and 1957, is located 1.2 km upstream of the town of esch-sur-Sûre in the north west of Luxembourg. As the dam is not equipped with a surface spillway, the construction of a new one is considered necessary. The new spillway design with a discharge capacity of 400 m³/s consists in building two labyrinth weirs discharging into a spillway tunnel passing under the left dam abutment. [less ▲]
