In the present paper, three solutions are proposed to simulate fast phenomena with finite element method at best. At first, material constitutive laws of Johnson-Cook and Zerilli-Armstrong types are implemented. These well-known laws are efficient for the description of material behavior at high velocities, especially for material used in automotive or aeronautics industry. The second contribution of this paper is the coupling of an implicit Chung-Hulbert algorithm taking into account the inertial effects with a staggered scheme for solving the thermal problem. The last input of this paper is the use of EAS (Enhanced Assumed Strain) finite elements to better capture complex strain modes, especially bending that is not accurately evaluated with classical finite elements. These EAS finite elements are used in the scope of thermomechanical dynamic phenomena implemented in a modular C++ environment at the University of Liege in the home made software METAFOR. [less ▲]

Phycobiliproteins, the main polypeptidic components of the phycobilisomes (PBS), are biolog- ical macromolecules arranged in complex interaction systems to perform light harvesting and conduction. The optical properties of these systems can hardly be studied by conventional spectroscopic techniques. Furthermore this techniques also involve laborious chemical extraction methods. Photoacoustic (PA) spec- troscopy was successfully applied to an in situ study of the phycobiliproteins expression in the eukaryotic red algae: Gracilaria chilensis. [less ▲]

Two complementary approaches of steel continuous casting modelling using the finite element code LAGAMINE have been developed in the M&S Department. We propose here a description of the context in which the study started, then a description of both macroscopic and mesoscopic approaches. The first one describes the whole continuous casting process, from the free surface in the mould and through the entire machine, including thermal and mechanical behaviour of the steel. The second approach focuses on the prediction of cracks and is developed at the grain scale. Some results are also presented for both models. [less ▲]

This paper presents a constitutive law based on taylor's model implemented in our non-linear finite element code LAGAMINE. The yield locus is only locally described and a particular interpolation method has been developed. This local yield locus model uses a discrete representation of the material's texture. The interpolation method is presented and a deep-drawing application is simulated in order to show up the influence of the texture evolution during forming processes. [less ▲]

TRIP-assisted steels show enhanced mechanical properties thanks to the strain-induced transformation of retained austenite to martensite (TRIP effect). Stabilisation of austenite is made possible by the combination of appropriate chemical composition (containing classically high levels of silicon, or, as developed more recently, aluminium) and of a two-steps heat treatment comprising an intercritical annealing followed by an isothermal holding in the bainite formation range. A detailed understanding of the effects of both elements on the bainite transformation kinetics is thus of primary importance for the optimisation of austenite retention. The present study aims at a better knowledge of the influence of aluminium levels on the kinetics of the bainite transformation of intercritical austenite, as compared to the effect of silicon. The bainite transformation kinetics was followed by dilatometry in a set of 6 steel grades with varying aluminium and silicon contents. These dilatometry experiments were coupled with a characterisation of the microstructures by X-ray diffraction, SEM and image analysis. It was shown that aluminium has a less pronounced effect than silicon in retarding the bainite transformation [less ▲]

la mise au point d'un modèle de simulation de la dernière passe du laminage à chaud du cuivre ne présente à priori pas de problème du point de vue numérique pour un code d'éléments finis non linéaire. La collecte d'informations précises tant sur le procédé industriel que sur le comportement du matériau est par contre une opération non triviale. Cet article présente les diverses méthodes expérimentales mises en œuvre pour caractériser le matériau: essais de compression à chaud, mesures d'analyse thermique différentielle, essais de dilatométrie et de diffusivité. Les méthodes permettant d'identifier les paramètres de la loi élasto-visco-plastique de type Norton-Hoff à partir des essais sont présentées et une analyse bibliographique investigue le problème de la détermination du module de Young à haute température. Tant les hypothèses supplémentaires relatives au procédé et nécessaires au modèle que les résultats finaux sont résumés. [less ▲]
