Climate change is widely accepted to be one of the most critical problems faced by the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain (3H Plain), which is a region in which there is an over-exploitation of groundwater region and where future warmer and drought conditions might intensify crop water demand. In this study, the spatiotemporal patterns of ET0 and primary driving meteorological variables were investigated based on a historical and RCP 8.5 scenario daily data set from 40 weather stations over the 3H Plain using linear regression, spline interpolation method, a partial derivative analysis and multivariate regression. The results indicated a negative trend in all the analysis periods (except spring) of the past 54 years of which only summer and the entire year were statistically significant (p < 0.01) with slopes of -1.09 and -1.30 mm·a-1 respectively. In contrast, a positive trend was observed in all four seasons and the entire year under the RCP 8.5 scenario, with the biggest increment equal to 1.36 mm·a-1 in summer and an annual increment of 3.37 mm·a-1. The spatial patterns of the seasonal and annual ET0 exhibited the lowest values in southeastern regions and the highest values in northeastern parts of Shandong Province, probably because of the combined effects of various meteorological variables over the past 54 years. Relative humidity (RH) together with solar radiation (RS) were detected to be the main climatic factors controlling the reduction of ET0 in summer, autumn, and the entire year on the 3H Plain. ET0 in spring was mainly sensitive to changes in RS and RH, whereas ET0 in winter was most sensitive to changes in wind speed (WS) and decreased due to declining RH. Under the future RCP 8.5 scenario, the annual ET0 distribution displays a rich spatial structure with a clear northeast-west gradient and anarea with low values in the southern regions, which is similarly detected in spring and summer. The most sensitive and primary controlling variables with respect to the increment of future ET0 are in the first place RS and then mean temperature in spring, while turn to be mean temperature and then RS in summer. In autumn, future ET0 is most sensitive to RH changes. WS and RH are the controlling variables for ET0 in winter. Annual future ET0 is most sensitive to RH changes and accordingly RS is responsible for the predicted increment of the annual ET0. Better understanding of current and future spatiotemporal patterns of ET0 and of the regional response of ET0 to climate change can contribute to the establishment of a policy to realize a more efficient use of water resources and a sustainable agricultural production in the 3H Plain. Blattmasken belong to vegetalized human figures used in parietal decoration of nymphaei and domestic ponds. Their use depends on the process of iconographic forms’ transmission already highlighted between the parietal mosaic, the italic mural painting of Ist century a.C. and the African ground mosaic. This transfer is discussed in the light of two cases : the House of Neptune and Amphitrite at Herculanum and the House of the Nymphs at Neapolis. The study is based on their iconographical environments and on their typology. It highlights two different symbolic conceptions of the motive. [less ▲]

In the framework of instrument calibration, straylight issues are a critical aspect that can deteriorate the optical performances of instrument. To cope with this, a new facility is designed dedicated for in-field and far field straylight characterization: up to 10-8 for in-field and up to 10-10 for far field straylight in the visible to NIR spectral ranges. Moreover, from previous straylight test performed at CSL, vacuum conditions are needed for reaching the 10-10 rejection requirement mainly to avoid air/dust diffusion. The major constrains are to design a straylight facility either for in-field and out-field straylight measurements. That requires high dynamic range at source level and a high radiance point source allowing small diverging collimated beam. Moreover, the straylight facility has to be implemented into a limited envelope and has to be built with vacuum compatible materials and black coating. As checking the facility performance requires an instrument better than the facility itself, that is no easy to find, so that the performances have been estimated through a modelisation into a non sequential optical software. This modelisation is based on CAD importation of mechanical design, on BRDF characteristics of black coating and on statistical averaging of ray tracing at instrument entrance. [less ▲]

The famous Doignon-Bell-Scarf theorem is a Helly-type result about the existence of integer solutions to systems of linear inequalities. The purpose of this paper is to present the following quantitative generalization: Given an integer k, we prove that there exists a constant c(n,k), depending only on the dimension n and on the number k, such that if a bounded polyhedron {x in R^n : Ax <= b} contains exactly k integer points, then there exists a subset of the rows, of cardinality no more than c(n,k), defining a polyhedron that contains exactly the same k integer points. In this case c(n,0)=2^n as in the original case of Doignon-Bell-Scarf for infeasible systems of inequalities. We work on both upper and lower bounds for the constant c(n,k) and discuss some consequences, including a Clarkson-style algorithm to find the l-th best solution of an integer program with respect to the ordering induced by the objective function. This volume presents the complete collection of complete pots and profiles (ca. 1800 vessels) dating to the 3rd millennium BC, recovered during the excavations carried out at Tell Beydar during sixteen seasons (from 1992 to 2010). Tell Beydar, located in the syrian Jezirah region was a second rank urban center during the second part of the 3rd millennium BC. The EJZ 3b city has been widely explored by extensive excavations and offered large assemblages of archaeological material. This monograph offers a clear vision of the material culture of the site and allows us to insert it in the cultural landscape of Upper-Mesopotamia during the 3rd millennium BC. [less ▲]

The well-studied semigroup Sg(A) = {b : b = Ax; x in Z^n; x >= 0} can be stratified by the sizes of the polyhedral fibers IPA(b) = {x : Ax = b; x >= 0; x in Z^n}. The key theme of this paper is a structure theory that characterizes precisely the set Sg_k(A) of all vectors b in Sg(A) such that their fiber IPA(b) has at least k-solutions. We demonstrate that this set is finitely generated, a union of translated copies of a semigroup which can be computed explicitly via Hilbert bases computations. Related results can be derived for those right-hand-side vectors b for which IPA(b) has exactly k solutions or fewer than k solutions. We also show that, when n, k are fixed natural numbers, one can compute in polynomial time an encoding of Sg_k(A) as a generating function, using a short sum of rational functions. As a consequence, one can identify all right-hand-side vectors that have at least k solutions. Using this tool we prove that for fixed n; k the k-Frobenius number can be computed in polynomial time, generalizing a well-known result of R. Kannan. [less ▲]
