Let I be a finite set of integers and F be a finite set of maps of the form n->k_i n + l_i with integer coefficients. For an integer base k>=2, we study the k-recognizability of the minimal set X of integers containing I and satisfying f(X)\subseteq X for all f in F. In particular, solving a conjecture of Allouche, Shallit and Skordev, we show under some technical conditions that if two of the constants k_i are multiplicatively independent, then X is not k-recognizable for any k>=2. RNA interference-based therapies are dependent on intracellular delivery of siRNA. The release of siRNA from the endosomal compartment may be a rate limiting step in the transfection process. The purpose of this study was to produce pH–responsive nanocarriers made of trimethylchitosan (TMC). To this end, pHsensitive methacrylic acid (MAA) copolymer was added to TMC–siRNA formulations. Four different TMCs associated or not with MAA were evaluated as siRNA carriers. Nanoparticles were characterized in terms of size, surface charge, morphology and interaction with siRNA. A swelling behaviour due to a decrease in pH was observed and was found to be dependent on MAA content in the complexes. In vitro experiments aimed at evaluating how the capacity of the nanocarriers to transfect siRNA in L929 cells was affected by MAA content. Confocal microscopy experiments showed that fluorescent MAA-containing particles exhibit a different distribution pattern inside the cells comparing to their counterpart without this pH-sensitive polymer. Transfection efficiency was investigated by RhoA mRNA expression inhibition. MAA–TMC–siRNA complexes were able to transfect L929 cells with greater efficiency than corresponding TMC–siRNA complexes. This study gives an insight into the opportunity of pH-sensitive nanocarriers for siRNA delivery. Such formulations may represent an attractive strategy to improve endosomal escape of siRNA. Managing, handling, and accessing hydrogeological information depend mainly on the applied hydrogeological data models, which differ between institutions and across countries. Growing interest in hydrogeological information diffusion, combined with a need for information availability, require the convergence of hydrogeological data models to make hydrogeological information accessible to multiple users such as universities, administrations, water suppliers, and research organisations. Furthermore, because hydrogeological studies are complex, they require a large variety of high-quality hydrogeological data with appropriate metadata in clearly designed and coherent structures. A need therefore exist to develop and implement hydrogeological data models that cover, as much as possible, the full hydrogeological domain. To respond to these requirements, a new data model, called HydroCube, has been developed for the Walloon Region in Belgium. The HydroCube model presents an innovative holistic “project-based” approach, which covers a full set of hydrogeological concepts and features, allowing for effective hydrogeological project management. This approach enables to store data about the project localisation, hydrogeological equipment, related observations and measurements. In particular, the model focuses on specialized hydrogeological field experiments, such as pumping and tracer tests. This logical data model uses entity-relationship diagrams and it has been implemented in the MS Access environment as the HydroCube database. It has been additionally enriched with a fully functional user-interface. [less ▲]

A combination of numerical and experimental methods is used to compare the efficiency of two microstructures of Ti5553 titanium alloy in an industrial test case. The test case consists in two parts of sectors of aircraft engine stators linked together by an Inconel bolt and submitted to tensile loading. The efficiency of these microstructures is evaluated by using finite element (FE) models. The chosen FE models take into account elasto-visco-plastic material behaviors, contact with friction (bolt heads/flanges and flange/flange), and the initial bolt tightening. The parameters of the elasto-visco-plastic (EVP) material law are adjusted from experimental results extracted from tensile tests performed on Inconel, and Ti5553 alloys. Viscous properties are observed at different strain rates. The studied alloy is assumed to be plastically isotropic. In order to compare the fracture resistance of both microstructures, a micro-mechanical (damage based) rupture model ([4]) is used as a FE post-processing step. [less ▲]
