Among the numerous changes which the notion of family has known over time, we are interested here in the normalization/acceptability of the divorce (or separation). We postulate that, in a context where these modifications are less and less ritualized and thus, less and less representable, the family (whose achronic character we shall differentiate from the diachronic) has no access to a social representability/acceptability of its separations. According to us, the family suffers then from an identity crisis of which the child, sometimes on top of his individual sufferings, can be the symptom. Then it remains for the therapists to make up for this lack of representability of separations, while remaining lucid about the limits of their interventions. [less ▲]

Mitochondrial F(1)F(0)-ATP synthase of chlorophycean algae is a dimeric complex of 1600kDa constituted by 17 different subunits with varying stoichiometries, 8 of them conserved in all eukaryotes and 9 that seem to be unique to the algal lineage (subunits ASA1-9). Two different models proposing the topological assemblage of the nine ASA subunits in the ATP synthase of the colorless alga Polytomella sp. have been put forward. Here, we readdressed the overall topology of the enzyme with different experimental approaches: detection of close vicinities between subunits based on cross-linking experiments and dissociation of the enzyme into subcomplexes, inference of subunit stoichiometry based on cysteine residue labelling, and general three-dimensional structural features of the complex as obtained from small-angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopy image reconstruction. Based on the available data, we refine the topological arrangement of the subunits that constitute the mitochondrial ATP synthase of Polytomella sp. [less ▲]

Phase-change materials (PCMs) are the subject of considerable interest because they have been recognized as potential active layers for nonvolatile memory devices, known as phase-change random access memories. By analyzing first-principles molecular-dynamics simulations we develop a method for the enumeration of mechanical constraints in the amorphous phase and show that the phase diagram of the most popular system (Ge-Sb-Te) can be split into two compositional regions having a well-defined mechanical character: a tellurium rich flexible phase and a stressed rigid phase that encompasses the known PCMs. This sound atomic scale insight should open new avenues for the understanding of PCMs and other complex amorphous materials from the viewpoint of rigidity. A method was developed for the precise determination of selenium isotopic compositions (delta Se-82/77, delta Se-82/76 and delta Se-82/74) by hydride generation inductively coupled plasma multiple collector mass spectrometry (HG-MC ICP MS) in Se-rich yeast. The conversion of all the selenium forms into Se(IV) during digestion and reduction steps was investigated by anion-exchange ICP quadrupole MS (SAX ICP Q MS) and was found to be complete. Measurement precision values expressed as deltas (delta) with regard to NIST SR M3149 were between 0.2-0.4 parts per thousand (2SD) over a period of 6 months for 25 or 50 ng mL(-1) of introduced selenium. The application of the method to the analysis of nine Se-rich yeast supplements from different manufactures showed significant variations in the isotope ratios suggesting that the latter can be an attractive parameter for the yeast provenance discrimination.
