Propnylcyclohexanol carbamate (L.2103) has more intense hypnotic and sedative properties, and a better therapeutic index than the carbamates of homologous propargylic cycloaliphatic carbinols. The synergy between L.2103 and chlorpromazine, barbiturates, and the promethazine-pethidine association is demonstrated, as well as the antagonism of L.2103 in regard to some convulsant drugs acting at various levels of the central nervous system. Although having sedative properties, L.2103 administered by oral and parental routes to the dog, has been studied. The percentage of reducing metabolites found in the urines is small and persists longer than hypnotic activity. The nature of these metabolites is discussed. [less ▲]

The inhibitory effect of adrenochrome on glutamic decarboxylase from brain homogenates in vitro, does not occur with mescaline and LSD 25. Certain stable derivatives of adrenochrome such as MSCA and AHA, in which the quinonic function is blocked, have an opposite effect, and behave like activators of brain glutamic decarboxylase. This activation seems to be indirect; MSCA and AHA do not constitute new coenzymes. [less ▲]

Properties of charges in general are discussed and it is shown that, whatever the nature of the charge considered, its value for any elementary particle can be deduced from the corresponding values for a minimum number of such particles, namely 3. This leads to the introduction of a "charge-space" which, in the present state of our knowledge, is three-dimensional. Examples are given. The "neutrinonic charge" which is to the neutrino what the electric charge is to the electron is especially studied. Correlations between charges and between charges and S and T3 are discussed. The purification and concentration of the exochitinase of a streptomycete are described. The procedure consists essentially of a "mass" adsorption on colloïdal chitin, followed by washing out and enzymic hydrolysis of the adsorbant, and of two consecutive fractionnations by ammonium sulfate. The chitinolytic activity has been concentrated 70 times, with a yield of 27%. The purified solution is homogeneous in the ultracentrifuge (molecular weight = 30 000) and also during the tests of solubility in ethanol or ammonium sulfate solutions. By electrophoresis at pH 8.2 in agar-agar plates, it has been possible to isolate three different chitinases, besides a small fraction of a non-chitinolytic protein (4.5 %). These three chitinases show slightly different electrophoretic patterns ; they have however the same specific activities, but, when they are recombined, a synergistic effect on chitin hydrolysis is observed.
