Citizenship is a decisive word within mainstream theory of democracy : it expresses the link that in modern States, unite people togegher and, in the republican mood it expresses also the principle of equality among citizens. But at the same time, it tends to obsfuscate domination wihin modern society by discarding the uttermost important distinction between labor and capital. [less ▲]

The word "terrorism" was inventend to describe the policy of the French republic after the French revolution and was claimed by the Republican Themselves. Today "terrorism" is used in the rhetoric of power to present an adversary as "absolute evil". The word is reserved to non official groups unable to battle professional armies and so it is discarded when the question is tu judge the acts of those armies. The result is that in today's violent conflict, only the weakest can bel labeled "terrorist" whiche makes the use of the word a very powerful tool in favor of the dominant order. [less ▲]

The theory of social capital according to Putnam insists on the fact that social relations are useful recourses in different situations of life. But it does not fit acuretaly the description of the situation of homeless people who are not necessarily deprived of a social network but who become more demanding in their social relationships. They want to give and receive and not only to use people as recourses. A Maussian theory of social link through gift is probably more relevant than social capital theory to describe those phenomena. [less ▲]

The chapter explores the way various kinds of media consuming may affect the main dimensions of social capital : network of social relations, political involment (and among it electoral turnout), socializing. What appears is a difference between the media : while an intensive use of television tends to deter social capital (but the certainly not in the huge proportion sometimes assumed), reading newspapers acts exactly in the opposite way. As for Internet, it seems that it depends of the kind of use, but, on the whole it is mainly a support to polititical involvement. The models control effects of age, education and gender. [less ▲]

In the field of integration of unskilled workers, who are more and more integrated to compulsory "reskilling" devices, is participation a benefit or a way to produce consent ? The text examines the work of three sociologists that draw heavily on modelizing explanation : Boudon, Elster and Dupuy. All of them alslo make an extensive use of literrary fiction in the core of their sociological explanation. Above the métaphoric use of fictional examples, the texts defends the idea that modelizing sociology, as paradoxical as it may appear, is very at ease with the use of literary examples because the familiarity with explanatory models helps them to make a clear difference between theory and reality. [less ▲]
