We designed and manufactured a working prototype of a wearable respiratory belt. The belt can work as a stand along system or can be embedded into clothes. The system is intended for remote health monitoring (particularly to monitor human respiration) such as home healthcare, remote medicine and remote socio-medical assistance as well as to monitor patients. The fully functional prototype proofs the concept that the elongation in the respiratory belt causes by human respiration is accurate enough to measure and to monitor human respiration. [less ▲]

The AMM is a development tool for integration of various off-self-sensors in one miniaturized device (1cm³). It can be used for wide variety applications such: industrial, buildings, healthcare and others. In normal environmental conditions, the autonomy is achieved by photovoltaic cell and the sensors are used for monitoring temperature, humidity and light intensity. At harsh environment such as a liquid zinc bath (800°C), the specially developed package allows the system to monitor inputs. [less ▲]

Microsys has developed an Autonomous Micro-platform for Multi-sensors integration (AMM). The AMM is a development tool/platform for integration of various off-self-sensors in one miniaturized device (1cm³). Depends of the sensor choice AMM can be used for various applications such: industrial, buildings, healthcare and others. Using the AMM platform, we developed an autonomous system for monitoring temperature, humidity, vibration, light and light intensity sound level. The autonomy is achieved by photovoltaic cell. In total we fabricated 15 fully functional prototypes. [less ▲]

The paper aims to demonstrate the benefits for a global approach that allows to define new research directions, new potential industrial markets, and increasing interest from potential users. Combining performance, economic and environmental criteria in a joint assessment approach for the target applications of sensor systems, facilitates significantly the communication between service provider and user. The environmental assessment approach for sensor systems will be available as a beta-version online tool tentatively from July 2013 onwards. Interested SMEs are invited to get involved as the LCA to go consortium will provide also a comprehensive mentoring for SMEs [less ▲]

We evaluated AJP (Aerosol Jet Printing) deposited silver layer on variety of organic substrates for the most common interconnect techniques for electronic packaging. Specifically, we checked if the AJP silver layer can be electrically interconnected by Au and Al wires bonding technique. We also evaluated suitability of AJP silver layer for surface-mount technology (SMT). We performed electrical characterization of the AJP silver layer. [less ▲]

We developed a microfluidic device for the detection of bio-molecules. The active part of the device is a biofunctionalized interdigitated capacitive sensor. The microsystem consists of a sensor on silicon chip, a microfluidic channel formed by photo-patternable resist and a plastic cover. We implemented a low temperature packaging process to assemble the sensor and prevent the biological material from degradation. [less ▲]

We have proposed and explored a novel sequence in MEMS fabrication process flow. The novel MEMS fabrication process flow can be shortly described as a “packaging first, MEMS release second”. We propose to package the MEMS device first (die mount, wire bonding and encapsulation) and to perform the MEMS release as the last step in the fabrication process flow. The standard route for IC manufacturing is, that the die packaging is the last step [1]. Such approach can’t be directly transferred and used for MEMS fabrication [2]. The main reason for that, that the MEMS device after the release becomes vulnerable to any physical and chemical exposure. Such exposure can occur during transportation, handling or any post-processing (incl. the packaging). [less ▲]

We developed a method of assembly for electrical micro-bio-sensor. The system is a part of a micro-fluidic device based on a capacitive biosensor. The bio-sensor is designed for bio-molecules (specifically DNA and protein) detection, quantification and recognition. Using the developed method we assembled series of fully functional demonstrators. [less ▲]
