When testing the fire resistance of metal sandwich panels, the annex B of EN 15254-5 gives rules for the consequently allowed extension of span length. The processing of these rules requires that specific measurements are carried out on joints between panels during the test. When a set of tests has been realised on panels of different thicknesses, but no measurement has been carried out on joints during these tests, the relevance of the following processing is analysed : 1. redo only the tests on panels of minimum and maximum thicknesses and carry out the measurement on joints ; 2. deduce the extended height allowed for these tests ; 3. interpolate these results to panels of intermediate thicknesses. Les nouveaux bâtiments industriels doivent répondre aux prescriptions de l'Annexe 6 de l'Arrêté Royal du 7 juillet 1994 fixant les Normes de Base en matière de prévention contre l'incendie auxquelles les bâtiments nouveaux doivent satisfaire. Cette réglementation stipule que les bâtiments industriels sont classés en fonction de la charge calorifique caractéristique, laquelle est la charge calorifique totale par unité de surface au sol corrigée par un facteur de combustion m, d'une valeur comprise entre zéro et un, qui tient compte de la combustion totale ou partielle des matériaux. La norme NBN EN 1991-1-2:2003 (Eurocode 1) indique que le facteur de combustion est égal à 0,8 dans le cas de matériaux principalement cellulosiques, mais cette norme ne donne pas de directives concernant la valeur de m pour les autres matériaux. La présente recherche a pour objet la détermination expérimentale du coefficient de combustion m de 6 marchandises courantes. [less ▲]

The ATTEL project (Performance-Based approaches for high strength tubular columns and connections during earthquake and fire loadings) aims at developing performance-based design approaches where the capacity design of steel grades up to S690 and S700MC – widely used in seismic engineering to avoid brittle failure and ensure ductile behaviour – will be extended to high strength steel circular hollow section structures to prevent failure and collapse under both earthquake and fire loading. Within this research projects, fire resistance tests have been performed on 4 columns, 4 beam-to-column joints and 3 column bases. The main features and results of these tests are presented here.
