Nowadays, in the educational field, digital literacy is considered absolutely necessary for students and citizens. If it is occasionally easy to observe the good practice of learners, there remains to determine how to train them and how to certify their abilities. The visaTICE project tries to face both issues. In this project, certification is a big challenge, but another challenge is to set up a system that takes into account the school context but that is not constrained by it. Presently the visaTICE project has developed online courses, tests, ability trees, coach training programs, which can be used in different contexts but we are not able to prove now, neither the training efficiencies, nor the suitability of the certification tests. A significant number of students will participate in the certification test for the first time in May 2012. Up to now, the collaborative design principle applied in visaTICE acts as a warranty. [less ▲]

This deliverable presents services and tools developed during the PALETTE project. Online descriptions, video teasers and printable documents are available from a “Service Gallery”. The teasers provide information from different points of views: a problem evoked by a CoP member, the answer provided by the developer and a supplementary account by a CoP mediator or an educationist. A series of printable documents give information on the services from the developer’s and a learning specialist’s points of views. The interface of the Service Gallery also provides a link to the PALETTE portal. A short survey helps the potential users to choose which service start to explore. A link to the Learning and Organisational Resources and another one to examples of generic scenarios illustrate some potential uses of the tools and services in order to sustain CoP’s activities. From the end of the PALETTE project (February 2009), these resources will be available from a website hosted at the CRP. [less ▲]

The research presented in this deliverable aimed at observing and analysing the use of PALETTE services in authentic CoP contexts. We first present our conceptual framework based on the instrumental genesis theory. We then present our methodology for the generation of data and the analysis. Seven cases of design in use of PALETTE services and scenarios by CoPs are then described and analysed. In the discussion section, we carry out a cross-case analysis aiming at highlighting the common conditions of use of the services through the seven analysed cases. This discussion provides reflection that may inform the use of PALETTE services by other CoPs in other contexts. Finally, in the conclusion, we reflect on our methodological approach and results, and provide guidelines for further research. [less ▲]

This deliverable first analyzes some integration problems encountered during the integration of the O’CoP ontology that was developed by several ontologists. Then, we describe several experiments of development of CoP-specific ontologies · Natural Language processing (NLP) tools were used by Knowledge Management (KM) service developers for analyzing a corpus of e-mails of the @pretic CoP, so as to develop a “Technical Problem” ontology. We also reused an existing hierarchy in order to build the Ontopedia ontology. Last, the development of the ontologies “Human Problems” and “Learning and Teaching” for the @pretic CoP relied on brainstormings between the CoP mediator and the CoP members. · For the Form@Hetice CoP, the ontology was aimed at being used by the BayFac system offering service of document classification, and was developed by the service developers, with a validation by the Form@Hetice CoP mediator. · For Learn-Nett CoP, the ontology was also aimed at being used by the BayFac system, and was developed by the service developers and the CoP mediator (who was also a member of the CoP), with a continuous validation by a CoP focus group. · For the TFT CoP, tbe ontology was developed manually by the CoP mediator through a folksonomy obtained using tags on the CoP documents, according to social tagging approach. At the end of the deliverable, we compare these different ontologies with related work and we analyze them from reusability viewpoint [less ▲]

The present deliverable aims at providing any CoP member, CoP animator or CoP mediator with the most complete view of the PALETTE tools and services. It gives a voice to the developer, the educationalist, the ergonomist and of course the user to explain how they consider them. So, it suggests use cases, scenarios but also shows to the reader where are the obstacles of use (with the aim of avoiding a too quick discouragement on his/her part) and it provides real users’ testimonies. It illustrates the participative design, core of the project, by showing how various kinds of partners in the project work at their evolvement. Several times, it evokes how they interact in that way. More, for the sake of completeness, external services which are "social network" oriented, are described in terms of functionalities and with the concern of providing the audience with a largest view of how ICT may help CoPs to grow up. The authors present the interest to articulate distance and face-to-face activities in an adult training environment in educational technology. They describe modalities and principles related to its implementation through a training strategy based on various pedagogical scenarios. Taking into account the learner’s personal project, several organisational aspects and a triple concordance between target competencies, learning activities and evaluation of these competencies increases the efficiency of this learning environment. Two examples of scenarios are described. The first one concerns a course called “design of specifications of an educational multimedia product”. The second one is named “sciences and technologies of information and communication”. [less ▲]

This deliverable presents the participatory design methodology of the PALETTE project and some first results of the implementation of this process. Some principles of the Actor Network Theory and of the Agile Methodology are embedded in the different stages of this methodology whose twelve stages (described in details in the last section) will be the basis of the participative development of services and scenarios of use. The first two stages of the process, establishing the collaboration with the CoPs and modelling their activities, have been implemented. Concrete results are available, i.e. procedures implemented to enrol the partners, methodological tools to gather and analyse the data from the CoPs. Some information has been communicated to partners of WPs 2, 3, 4 and 5 that needed it to progress in the development of their work. This process is not ended; it is iterative and will be refined all along the project. [less ▲]
