If it is well prepared, migrating from Aleph to Alma brings users a lot of advantages. To reach the go live day with as less worries as possible, ULg Library's preparation consisted in two things: a deep understanding of Alma new concepts and a simplification of our physical fulfillment policy. This presentation, based on our experience, will aim at describing the main differences between Aleph and Alma regarding fulfillment concepts and their significant consequences on implementation and migration jobs. On a fulfillment point of view, what distinguishes Aleph from Alma is that, in Aleph, the circulation policy is based on item status. On the contrary in Alma it is based on the location, and its traffic rules built by a set of terms of uses (TOU). Numerous other idioms complete the Alma toolkit and allow physical item’s fulfillment customizing. But to really enjoy the new possibilities given by Alma, it is important to fully feel the necessary changes… at the very beginning ! [less ▲]

This study aims to highlight what benefits, if any, Google Scholar (GS) has for academic literature searches in the field of geography, compared to three commercial bibliographic databases: Web of Science (WoS) and FRANCIS (multidisciplinary databases) and GeoRef (specialized in geosciences). To ensure a valid comparison, identical bibliographic searches were applied using each of the four bibliographic tools. To exclude automatic variations of the ten keywords tested, they were placed between quotation marks and searched only in the “title” field of the respective search tools’ interfaces. The results were limited to bibliographic references published from 2005 to 2009. In order to assess the repeatability of the results, the exact same process was repeated monthly between November 2010 and July 2011. Initially the whole set of results was analyzed, after which the search results for two keywords (selected since they yielded a manageable number of results) were studied in more detail. The results indicate that GS search results show a large degree of overlap with those of the other databases but, moreover, yield numerous unique hits, which should be useful to researchers in both the fields of human and physical geography. GS leads the other tools widely on number of results, independently of keyword, subfield, year of publication, or time of search. [less ▲]

Since the “serial price crisis”, no institution in the world has been able anymore to provide to scholars with the scientific literature they need. Although it was the first reason why the scientific community developed Open Access initiatives, it’s absolutely not the only one. Nowadays, the awareness has become so large that many research players have put OA on the agenda (NIH, WHO, H2020, Wellcome Trust, FRS-FNRS…). The two main existing complementary ways will be described (Green and Gold) and Fools’ Gold will be denounced (unfair gold, hybrid journals, predatory journals). The University of Liege is one of the world leaders in OA with Green and Gold initiatives. What benefits can scholars expect from OA as authors and as readers on the basis of that experience? In February 2013, the ULg Library launched a new portal where the new library website and Primo were closely integrated. Three months before the official launch to the public, Primo FE was shown to library colleagues to get the first professional feedback. Several training sessions were organized for the library staff to focus on the differences between discovery tools and traditional opacs and to explain how our Primo would function (local data vs PCI, pipe process, normalization rules, deduplication, FRBRization...) Then, a survey was organized among the library staff to get their feelings and perceptions about discovery tools in general, and the impacts that such tools have, according to them on the users' habits and searches. Our presentation will explain how our library colleagues (directors, service heads, cataloguers, trainers, circulation staff, e-librarians, secretaries...) felt apprehensive and/or enthusiastic about switching to a discovery tool in general (not specifically Primo). This article is written from a doctoral work on the role of scientific literature in the bioengineers' teaching at Gembloux. It is essentially a summary including recent advances in information literacy. Data analysis indicates that the bioengineers working at Gembloux publish at least as much as other scientists in Belgium, they preferentially publish articles in journals with impact factor, they read preferentially articles and they use all electronic resources available to them. Their fields of research, and reading, goes beyond the strict sense of agronomy. The courses provided at Gembloux are based on the concept of information literacy. It describes a set of skills that allow individuals to recognize an information need and enable them to locate, valuate and use needed information. The Information Literacy concept has evolved over the last two decades. Information literacy education is going well beyond the library. The skills involved are also social and cultural skills besides intellectual skills. They include media and new information technologies without being reduced to technical or technological skills. At Gembloux, the information literacy education, is registered in student's schedule, integrates production of scientific papers and is based on a methodological approach and his own didactic and specific contents.
