A first research word carried out for fhe Commission of the European Communities has produced a manual design methodology (1). Mainly orientated to the conception of low-cost houses, it integrates some fundamental thermal concepts into the design process. The present research work had for target to apply this design method to an actual case, in order to test the practicabilité of the method, to bring its lacunas to to the light and to confront the theorectical estimations of heating energy needs, with actual measurements. The recommanded design process has been followed along the conception of 25 houses, among with five have been built and monitored. The design guide has been revised by a re-writing of the manual version, and has been computerized on a micro-computer. Any practical application is now considerably speeded up and usable by practicians. [less ▲]
