In Senegal, family businesses are present in all industries and represent a significant force. Most of family entrepreneurs are between 40 and 50 years old, which show that they will soon face the challenge of transmission. To face this challenge and thus to ensure their continuity, it is necessary to ensure the cohesion of family ties, particularly through the family governance. So, our contribution aims, in a contingent perspective and based on a large survey of the existing literature, to a better appraisal of family businesses in Senegal through a better understanding of their family governance practices first, and by understanding the role of family governance on their global performance in order to identify key success factors for a successful family transmission process in the context of Senegal.
