[more ▼] This case report is concerned with a 30 year old patient diagnosed with pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) in the knee. The patient underwent an orthopedic surgical operation to remove the lesions. PVNS is a rare proliferative disorder, mostly benign and affecting the knee; its aetiology remains unclear. It represents a medical challenge because of non-specific symptoms that delay the diagnosis with a very high rate of recurrence. MRI imaging is necessary to explore the lesions, but the final diagnosis can only be made after anatomopathologic analysis of the excised lesions. When multiple lesions are present, the treatment consists of their excision by arthrotomy, or by arthroscopy if the disease is localized. [more ▼] Cartilaginous exostosis, a frequent benign bone tumour, develops mainly during the growth. Often asymptomatic, it can be painful, compressive or unsightly, involving a surgical treatment. The diagnostic is based on radiological imaging. At adulthood, pains, a growth of the exostosis volume or characteristic imaging modifications lead to a resection in order to exclude a sarcomatous transformation. We report the case of a patient showing a painful exostosis of the femur distal metaphysis. [less ▲] Detailed reference viewed: 143 (6 ULg) L'image du mois. [more ▼] The Stewart-Treves Syndrome is defined as an angiosarcoma (very aggressive malignant tumor originating from endothelial cells) appearing in a specific clinical setting. This tumor develops in patients suffering from chronic lymphedema of the upper limb following mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection for breast cancer. The diagnosis relies on medical history, clinical examination and a histological assesment (biopsy or resection). This syndrome represents a rare clinical entity. Unfortunately, the prognosis is poor. A large surgical resection is the treatment of choice if the patient is a candidate for a surgical resection with a curative intent Radiotherapy is sometimes used as a palliative local treatment. Chemotherapy is only used in more advanced cases, not curable by surgery alone. [more ▼] Patients with soft-tissue tumours usually consult for a mass at the level of an extremity or the torso. This article aims to help the general practitioner and the general surgeon in the standardized setup of these tumours. The epidemiology, clinical presentation and evaluation as well as the useful exams to be performed, including biopsy, are developped, in order to obtain rational principles for the diagnostic setup and surgical decision-making.
