[more ▼] Nowadays, the BIM (Building Information Modeling) paradigm is a central topic in the CAAD community. Next to the commercial solutions, the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) have emerged as the best open standard candidate for BIM interoperability. Despite the efforts of the community for promoting IFC over the last 15 years, it seems that its practical adoption in real-life projects has been very limited. The goal of this article is to explore how useful IFC can be today and to provide the reader with some advice for an effective adoption of IFC. Over the last year, we have conducted a project aiming at acquiring a sound understanding of IFC. It was made of two complementary investigations. On one hand, we have focused on the commercial modeling tools and the IFC support they were offering. On the other hand, we have focused on the IFC-based software developments. We have developed a tool converting IFC files into a dedicated thermal assessment based model. We will summarize the experience we have acquired in this project into some advice for users migrating to IFC. Our goal is to confront the practical aspects of the IFC developments, with both the theoretical ambitions and the commercial support currently available. We describe a different approach, involving the users at the very beginning of the development. The domain we address is the creative design, mainly architecture. Rooted in a multidisciplinary approach as well as a deep understanding of architecture and design, our method aims at proposing adapted mixed reality solution to support two crucial activities : sketch-based preliminary design and distant synchronous collaboration in design. This chapter provides a summary of our work on a mixed-reality device based on a drawing table (the Virtual Desktop) designed specifically to address real-life/trade-focused issues. We explain our methodology, describe the two supported activities and the related users’s needs, we detail the technological solution we have developed and we present the main results of the multiple evaluation sessions. Budd-Chiari syndrome has been described in a few patients with hepatic sarcoidosis. Herein we have reported the case of a young woman suffering from hepatic sarcoidosis who developed severe cholestasis and chronic Budd-Chiari syndrome. She successfully underwent orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and is asymptomatic with normal liver function at 3 years follow-up. Histopathological assessment of the liver explant demonstrated a florid granulomatous process, with involvement of the large intrahepatic veins, providing an anatomical basis for the vascular flow disturbances. This case adds further evidence that liver transplantation may be the curative treatment for complicated sarcoidotic liver disease.
